Position Overview

In the continuation of the Generation Equality journey and with the push to achieve the Sustainable Development Agenda and its Goals by 2030, the UN Foundation Girls and Women team seeks an adept and innovative Associate, UN & Civil Society Engagement to support the teamโ€™s work to connect and strengthen gender equality ecosystems in the multilateral space.

The Associate, UN & Civil Society Engagement will provide cross-cutting advocacy, project administration, and research support to the Girls & Women team. This will include leading the Girls & Women teamโ€™s youth engagement and building relationships with UN agencies such as UNFPA, UNICEF, and the forthcoming UN Youth Office. Additionally, the Associate, UN & Civil Society Engagement will track the work of the Human Rights Council and Security Council through a gender equality lensยญยญยญ. Further, the Associate, UN & Civil Society Engagement will support the Girls and Women teamโ€™s efforts to research the history of the relationship between the UN and feminist movements, and to foster current collaboration between them. Finally, the Associate, UN & Civil Society Engagement will support existing partnerships, including through coordination with UN, civil society, and youth partners and in the planning and execution of events and engagements.

The Associate, UN & Civil Society Engagement will work closely with the Director, UN and Civil Society Engagement and a New York-based UN Engagement team, including the Senior Manager, Advocacy & UN Engagement and the Program Officer, UN Engagement.

This is a full-time temporary position with an end date of May 31, 2025, and is based in New York, New York.

Essential Functions

Support youth engagement for the Girls and Women team, including assisting the Director in building and maintaining relationships with youth advocates and youth-led/related organizations; providing logistical/technical support for youth-related key moments and convenings; and contribute to planning and research on meaningful youth engagement to support the team and partners.Support the Director in managing the Bridge-Building program, which centers girl and youth activists in dialogue with other key stakeholders and powerholders within the Generation Equality process through three day, in-person workshops.Support the design, organization and execution of regional Bridge-Building workshops, from ideation to post-workshop follow-up, in coordination with convening partners.Support project administration and the planning/execution of said workshops, including travel, venue transportation, food and accommodation, agenda setting, and monthly follow-up calls for participants, post-workshop.Support the design and logistics of facilitating disbursement of feminist, autonomous youth funds associated with each Bridge-Building workshop cohort, in close coordination with key partners.Assist the Director to build and nurture relationships with colleagues at UN Women, UNFPA, UNICEF, the UN Youth Office, and other relevant UN agencies and offices as needed.Provide support to the Girls and Women teamโ€™s feminist resourcing workstream, including through the teamโ€™s grantmaking and associated Funds (Bird Feeder Fund, WithHer Fund).Support the Girls and Women teamโ€™s institutional knowledge on a range of issues related to the UN and gender equality, including the history of the UNโ€™s relationship with feminist movements; feminist resourcing and financing; youth engagement; and other topics as needed.Track and monitor Women, Peace, and Security developments at the Security Council and Human Rights Council; provide briefings as needed to the team and senior leadership.Attend and participate in key meetings and convenings around UNHQ to summarize and relay notes/outcomes for the team as needed.Provide event and logistics support for the Girls and Women team in New York, during key UN moments such as CSW and UNGA.Support on logistics and administrative tasks for the Girls and Women team as needed.Other duties as assigned.

Selection Criteria

Bachelorโ€™s degree required, relevant field preferred.Minimum 2-3 years of experience working on issues related to gender equality, human rights, international development or international relations.Demonstrated commitment to intersectional feminist values and principles.Ability to support multiple complex projects simultaneously, work to deadlines with other team members with grace and effectiveness under pressure and undertake independent problem solving.Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders.Ability to build trust-based partnerships with a wide range of key stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and institutions, including civil society and youth leaders.Excellent interpersonal and oral communications skills.Proven ability to work in coordination with multiple teams and partners.A demonstrated knowledge of global issues related to gender equality and the UN human rights system, and an understanding of the UNF mission, programs, strategy and goals.Strong writing, editing, research, analytical, and presentation skills.Proven ability to articulate ideas and opinions to a broad audience.Self-motivated, energetic individual with a willingness to learn quickly, and work in cross- cutting teams.Ability to work under pressure and handle stress.Proficiency or fluency in languages other than English preferred.Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 15%.Ability to meet physical demands of job, including lifting up to 30lbs.
