Org. Setting and ReportingThe United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) was established by Security Council resolution 2476 and is mandated to promote and strengthen political stability and good governance, including the rule of law, preserving, and advancing a peaceful and stable environment, supporting an inclusive inter-Haitian national dialogue, and protecting and promoting human rights in Haiti. This position is located within the Strategic Communication and Public Information Unit of the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH). The incumbent will be under the overall supervision of the Senior Public Information Officer. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Associate Public Information Officer may be responsible for the following duties: 1. Supports the implementation of the Missionโ€™s digital communications strategy: a) Assures management, maintenance and updates of the Missionโ€™s website and social media platforms. b) Produces high-standard multimedia and multilingual content for the Missionโ€™s platforms and for dissemination to the media and relevant UN entities, using the most appropriate platforms, whether through the internet, social media, photos, in print or outreach events. c) Develops content that uses a combination of text, imagery, audio, and graphics to tell a story, using relevant software. 2. Manages outreach to local media, civil society organizations, Government and National NGOs and builds capacity: d) Produces and disseminates information, especially to local media and organizations about the Mission, its aims and activities and supports outreach activities and assists in interactions in local language(s); e) Develops partnerships with key national constituencies by proactively sharing work plan and content and working closely with national partners to raise visibility and understanding of the Missionโ€™s work. f) Monitors and analyzes current events, public opinion and press; identifies issues and trends in country, and helps to prepare notes to management on appropriate action/responses. 3. Builds communication capacity with national partners and strengthens local partnerships g) Builds capacity and serves as focal point on local capacity building including supporting local media and partners through regular contact and organizing specialized training to address knowledge, awareness and skill gaps. h) Develops partnerships with key national constituencies by proactively sharing work plan and content and working closely with national partners to raise visibility and understanding of the Missionโ€™s work. i) Develops strategic partnerships with key constituencies to elicit support for and maximize impact of public information objectives; raises visibility of the Mission by organizing and/or participating in seminars, lectures, conferences, public events on major issues and events concerning the organization. 4. Prepares communications products and content in local language(s) j) Drafts a diverse range of communication products in local languages(s) in support of unit priorities and works closely with departments and partners to develop ways to implement campaigns system-wide and to incorporate the campaign message and themes into all relevant events and products. k) Drafts human interest stories for local and international audiences and produces digital content for the Missionโ€™s social media platforms. l) Keeps abreast of changing developments, trends and political development in the Country; provides communication support to managers, senior officers and other public information staff on a range of public affairs issues, methods, and approaches; m) Contributes to reports to Mission leadership, UNHQ on communications activities, developments, trends and attitudes regarding the UN; and coordinates and shares public information activities and guidance with other sections of the Public Information Unit and leadership when appropriate. 5. Provides support to internal communications n) Drafts copy for reports, newsletters, and other materials of interest to internal audiences. o) Ensures Missionโ€™s internal communication is up to date and accurate. 6. Performs other duties as assigned. EducationAdvanced university degree (Masterโ€™s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field. Work ExperienceA minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area is required. Experience working in digital media is desirable. Experience in video and photo production and editing is desirable. Experience in social media campaign design and implementation is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in French is r (both oral and written) is required.
