Purpose of Job
As a member of the Country and FI Credit Risk Management Team (โCFIโ), the Analyst analyses and appraises the EBRDโs new and existing portfolio of FI debt transactions and associated risks (including country risks) in either the Banking portfolio, Treasury portfolio, or both. They will also provide support to the team on the preparation of credit reviews and allocation of credit ratings to counterparties, setting of counterparty credit appetite and limits, reviewing of new projects/transactions and formulating recommendations of appropriate risk mitigation measures and transaction structuring, including security, covenants, and pricing. The Analyst will also be required to undertake periodic portfolio reviews, identify and clearly communicate trends in the portfolio, including macroeconomic, legal and banking system trends in various jurisdictions in which EBRD (โthe Bankโ) operates, for broader strategic decision-making and bottom-up stress-testing.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
The Analyst provides support to the team and works under the supervision of an Associate Director.
- Support the team in assessing the creditworthiness of current and prospective clients of the Bank. Clearly and concisely articulate views around rating recommendations, credit appetite and relevant risk mitigants.
- Provide inputs to help analyse the key risks of each proposed transaction. Over time become more involved in advising on risk mitigation measures, including via legal documentation and/or structuring. With help from more experienced members of the team, review integrity and anti-money laundering issues to ensure compliance with internal guidelines. As the Analyst gains experience, he/she will be expected to exercise own judgement and expertise to appraise the validity and reliability of key assumptions of each proposal.
- Develop knowledge around risk guidelines and policies, prudential limits set by the Bank, exposure measures and risk management systems and processes and ensure projects are compliant with these. Understand the methodology behind credit ratings, PD and LGD and apply these appropriately.
- With oversight and guidance from more experienced members of the team, progress to making more independent decisions regarding portfolio actions (including rating changes, certain waivers and amendments), and recommendations to senior management on matters requiring higher level approval (including transfers to corporate recovery, impairments and more significant restructuring, etc).
- Carry out proactive and regular monitoring of the countries and counterparties covered within the team and update the team accordingly.
- In liaison with other Risk teams, provide input to FI sector, or Treasury, portfolio stress-tests. Collaborate with other members of staff; especially in the Banking Department, and Finance to ensure effective cross-departmental and business functioning.
- Participate and contribute positively to various initiatives within Risk Management or bank-wide.
- Among peers, be an agent of Credit Risk culture dissemination.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Degree in finance, business, economics, or equivalent experience.
- Familiarity with financial accounting or macroeconomics or corporate finance
- Demonstrated excellent analytical and quantitative skills.
- Attention to detail to ensure consistently accurate analysis.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, as the role involves interacting with stakeholders from all across the Bank and external clients.
- Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office suite
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Knowledge of and interest in emerging markets, including in EBRDโs Countries of Operation.
