Summary of Position

The X-ray Technician will play a crucial role in the healthcare team by performing diagnostic imaging procedures using X-ray technology. This position involves operating imaging equipment, ensuring patient safety, and producing high-quality images for diagnosis and treatment.

Purpose: The purpose of the X-ray Technician position is to perform X-ray imaging procedures following established protocols, assist in the diagnosis of medical conditions, and contribute to the overall delivery of quality patient care.

Engagement: The X-ray Technician actively engages with patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals, fostering effective communication, empathy, and teamwork. Collaboration and coordination with the healthcare team are essential for providing accurate and timely diagnostic imaging services.

Essential Job Functions

Imaging Procedures: Perform X-ray imaging procedures, including positioning patients, adjusting equipment settings, and ensuring optimal image quality while adhering to radiation safety guidelines. Patient Care: Prepare and educate patients about the imaging procedure, address their concerns, and ensure their comfort and safety throughout the process. Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain X-ray equipment, ensuring its proper functioning, performing routine quality control checks, and reporting any malfunctions. Image Evaluation: Review and evaluate images for technical quality, accuracy, and diagnostic value, ensuring adherence to imaging protocols and requirements. Radiation Safety: Implement radiation safety measures, including the use of shielding devices, proper positioning techniques, and adherence to radiation exposure guidelines to minimize risks to patients, staff, and self. Documentation and Reporting: Accurately document patient information, imaging protocols, technical factors, and any relevant observations in the electronic medical record or imaging system. Collaboration: Collaborate with the healthcare team, including radiologists, physicians, and nurses, to ensure accurate and timely image interpretation and assist in the overall patient care process. Quality Assurance: Participate in quality improvement activities, including image quality assessments, protocol reviews, and compliance with regulatory standards.

Requirements

Required Qualifications and Professional Experience:

Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology program. Valid certification or licensure as a Radiologic Technologist. Experience in performing X-ray imaging procedures, preferably in a healthcare setting. Knowledge of radiation safety guidelines, equipment operation, and imaging protocols. Familiarity with medical terminology and anatomy relevant to X-ray imaging.

Required Skills, Competencies & Attributes:

Proficient in operating X-ray equipment and related imaging technology. Strong knowledge of positioning techniques to obtain optimal images for various body parts and conditions. Excellent attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in positioning, technique selection, and image quality. Knowledge of radiation safety protocols and ability to implement them effectively. Effective communication skills to interact with patients, healthcare professionals, and other team members. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing patient safety and maintaining professionalism. Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to troubleshoot equipment issues and optimize image quality. Proficient in using electronic medical record systems and imaging software for documentation and image storage. Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying updated with advances in radiologic technology and imaging techniques.
