Purpose of consultancy:

UNFPA, through its Regional Humanitarian Hub for Syria and the Arab States, leads the Whole of Syria (WOS) GBV sector. As part of its responsibility, UNFPA leads the humanitarian needs overview (HNO) for the GBV sector. As part of the HNO, the WoS GBV AoR is conducting a number of qualitative data collection during the month of Aug/Sep 2023, such as community level Focus Group Discussions and GBV expert Focus Group Discussions, that will all need to be coded and analyzed using the MAXQDA software. The analysis will be triangulated with quantitative data collected through the Multi-Sectoral Needs Assessment and will all feed into the Voices from Syria 2024 report. The GBV AOR is also coding all the community focus group discussion for the protection, child protection and mine action sectors for the Whole of Syria โ€“ as a result playing a leading role in the qualitative analysis to support the 2023 Protection Humanitarian Needs Overview for Syria. In order to fulfil this role and meet the deadline set by the Syria Humanitarian Planning Cycle, the UNFPA Syria Response hub is seeking a consultant (a team of consultants may apply) to support the data entry for the GBV, Protection, Child Protection and Mine Action sectors and produce the GBV analysis for the 2024 WoS Humanitarian Needs Overview.

You will report to the Whole of Syria GBV Coordinator & Regional Humanitarian Hub for Syria and the Arab States

You would be responsible for:

Under the supervision of the WoS GBV Coordinator, the consultant(s) will:

Input FGD data into data entry tool MAXQDA for GBV, Child protection, general protection and mine action sectors using the coding tree provided: Data entry (coding) for around 120 community FGDs. Data entry for up to 8 GBV Expert FGDs. Enter all GBV secondary data provided by the Whole of Syria coordinator and code it according to the system provided. Extract quotes from FGDs and code them by โ€œtopicโ€ in order to facilitate the development of the final report. Hold a 2 hours workshop to present and discuss preliminary findings with GBV coordinators. Draft the analysis of all GBV data to produce the VOICES From Syria, HNO GBV Analysis report. The report should also include triangulation with quantitative data from the Multi-Sectoral Needs Assessment provided by the WoS GBV team.

Qualifications and Experience:

Education: Advanced Degree in social science, gender, health and related fields

Minimum 7 yearsโ€™ experience in the field of gender based violence and specifically in social work in humanitarian setting Excellent written and spoken English, Arabic language an advantage Experience in GBV assessment and analysis Experience in gathering and analyzing qualitative data, including through qualitative data analysis software like Maxqda or other Knowledge of the Syria crisis an advantage Excellent analytical and writing skills Proactive attitude to identify and propose practical steps and recommendations Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to work effectively in a multicultural and changing environment, communication skills, teamwork, analytic thinking, planning and organizing, time management, creativity and innovation and client orientation.
