Mission and objectivesAs the lead United Nations agency on international development, UNDP works in 170 countries and territories to eradicate poverty and reduce inequality. We help countries develop policies, leadership skills, partnerships and institutional capabilities to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Our work is centred around six core development areas, known as our signature solutions: poverty and inequality, governance, resilience, environment, energy and gender equality. The overarching frame of UNDP's work on disaster risk reduction (DRR) and recovery is risk-informed development. Through four interconnected workstreams, UNDP works towards strengthening resilience and reducing vulnerabilities by increasing risk governance capacity, refining and expanding the understanding of DRR, fostering access to risk information and enhancing prevention, preparedness and recovery processes. UNDP pursues a holistic, conflict sensitive, whole-of-government and -society, gender transformative approach that leaves no one behind. The four areas of work comprise: 1) Integrated Risk Governance: Strengthened disaster and climate risk governance capacities that set incentives for risk reduction and resilience building (Sendai Priority 2) 2) Climate and Disaster Risk Information: Increased access to and application of climate and disaster risk information to support risk-informed development (Sendai Priority 1) 3) Sustainable Recovery: Enhanced recovery assessment, planning and preparedness capacities that ensure resilience after disasters (Sendai Priority 4) 4) Early Warning, Preparedness and Anticipation: Strengthened early warning and preparedness systems and capacities to support early action of affected populations (Sendai Priority 4) For more information, please visit: https://www.sparkblue.org/dashboard/disaster-risk-reduction
ContextUNDPโs Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery for Building Resilience Team (DRT) seeks support for the translation & proofreading of information material on preparedness from English to Russian. The DRT leads UNDPโs global practice on disaster risk reduction, recovery, and resilience-building and provides policy advice and programmatic support to UNDP Regional Hubs and Country Offices in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of disaster risk reduction and recovery programmes. This work is aligned with the UNDP Strategic Plan 2022-2025, where resilience is both a direction of change and a signature solution, and the UNDP Crisis Offer, through which UNDP commits to strengthening the capacity of governments, institutions and communities to manage and prepare for multi-dimensional risks and shocks. The DRT under the Crisis Bureau currently manages a portfolio of global and regional projects amounting to approximately USD 60 million. Context The UNDP Preparedness Toolkit is an interactive platform to better anticipate and prepare for uncertainty, risk and crisis. The Toolkit is an enabler for UNDP to support countries to enhance their institutional, strategic, and operational capabilities for preparedness and anticipation, improve the speed and efficiency of UNDPโs programmatic solutions, and apply foresight to inform its development work, including in crisis settings. The Toolkit serves as a programmatic manual for UNDP Country Offices to design projects and programmes related to preparedness and anticipation in support of national and local priorities. The UNDP Preparedness Learning Pathway is a capacity development initiative built upon the UNDP Preparedness Toolkit that supports countries to enhance their institutional, strategic and operational capabilities for preparedness and anticipation. for preparedness and anticipation. The Pathway facilitates joint learning and knowledge exchange for and among decision-makers and practitioners from national and local authorities, UN entities and other relevant in-country stakeholders, by deploying the content of the Toolkit and associated resources from UNDP and partners. The initiatives are aligned with the UNDP Strategic Plan 2022-2025, where resilience is both a direction of change and a signature solution, and the UNDP Crisis Offer, through which UNDP commits to reduce risk by strengthening the capacity of governments, institutions and communities to be better prepared for and ready to respond to multiple risks, as well as to adapt to changes, uncertainty and emerging complexities. UNDP is looking for three to six online volunteers, fluent or native in Russian, to support the translation and proofreading of text from English to Russian associated with the learning package and online platform developed. Selected online volunteers will have the chance to collaborate with UNDP Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery for Building Resilience Team (DRT) based in Geneva and to learn about the newly developed learning package and its content. Online volunteers will also receive feedback on their collaboration and quality of work, certificate of appreciation upon successful completion of the assignment and will be given credit of support where applicable.
