About this position
We are looking for a self-motivated, proactive and confident Trade and Integration Consultant for the Caribbean region (six member states of the IDB: Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago), based in Trinidad and Tobago. As a Trade and Integration Consultant, you will support the operational and strategic portfolio of the Trade and Investment Division of the IDB, and the staff members leading its supervision.
The Integration and Trade Sector (INT) advises management on trade and regional development issues, as well as overall Bank strategies and programs in these areas. It is also responsible for policy-relevant research on regional and global economic integration issues and trends, as well as specialized technical sector support to trade and integration-related operations and activities. The Trade and Investment Division (TIN) is charged with initiating and executing the sectorโs operational portfolio.
What youโll do:
- Support the Team leaders in execution of TIN operations in the Caribbean member states of the IDB. This includes technical inputs, engagement with executing and beneficiary Agencies, monitoring of operations, institutional coordination, dissemination of deliverables, stakeholder management and mission support. The position entails cooperation with other related country operations to avoid overlaps and streamline dialogue with the Government.
- Support the generation of new programmes in Caribbean member states (grants and loans).
- Initiate and coordinate IDB procurements for consulting services in collaboration with the Team Leaders. This includes technical review of deliverables.
- Provide technical inputs to the Division for country strategies, sector framework documents, policy papers and blogs.
- Contribute to the knowledge foundation of the sector through the provision of technical inputs for country strategies, sector framework documents, policy papers and trade and investment facilitation blogs.
- Organize Division-related events, e.g. national or regional workshops, training and forums.
- Travel for any Division-related business.
What you'll need
- Education: Masterโs degree in Economics, Political Science, and/or International Business. The degree must have a focus on international trade, e.g. trade economics, trade policy, trade regulation.
- Experience: A minimum of five (5) to eight (8) years of relevant professional experience in trade policy, trade facilitation and port logistics, investment attraction, creative services, and/or services exports. Preference for experience in working with the IDB group or other multilateral organization. Experience in working in the Caribbean is essential, from a public institution, desirable. Project management for development programmers considered an asset.
- Languages: Proficiency in English. Proficiency in Spanish is preferred.

Requirements:
- Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.
- Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration:
- Type of contract: Consultant Full-Time. Non-nationals of Trinidad and Tobago would be offered an international contract; nationals of Trinidad and Tobago would be offered a national contract.
- Length of contract: 12 months.
- Work Location: Trinidad and Tobago Country Office.
