Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEPโs Industry and Economy Division works with international governments and non-governmental organizations, national and local governments, business and industry to develop and implement policies, strategies and practices that are cleaner and safer, incorporate environmental costs, use natural resources efficiently, reduce pollution and risks for humans and the environment, and enable the implementation of conventions and international agreements. This position contributes to the UNEP Textile Initiative, which provides strategic leadership and encourages sector-wide collaboration to accelerate a just transition towards a sustainable and circular textile value chain. It has outlined the imperative for the fashion sector to become radically and rapidly transformed to become circular and encapsulates and aligns all UNEP work on textiles to do so. The position will in particular support the project โAccelerating the transition of the Indonesian Textiles Sector towards Circularity (InTex Indonesia)โ a three-year UNEP project funded by Denmark and implemented in collaboration with the Government of Indonesia (National Development and Coordination Ministry BAPPENAS). The projectโs main objectives are in accelerating the adoption of circular practices in the textiles industry in Indonesia and in supporting the Government of Indonesia in implementing the Circular Economy National Roadmap and Action Plans. The consultant will work with the Consumption and Production Unit and the Life Cycle Initiative, Resources and Markets Branch, Industry and Economy Division. This post is based in Jakarta, Indonesia. Results of Service The scope of the consultancy is to support the UNEP Textile Initiative, specifically the InTex Indonesia project that is being implemented 2025-2027. As a national focal point for the InTex Indonesia project the consultant will have the following responsibilities: โ Contributes to the implementation, monitoring and evaluation activities of InTex Indonesia. โ Acts as an interface between the InTex Indonesia national implementing partners, the Government of Indonesia the UNEP Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific and the UNEP Industry and Economy Division โ Provides administrative and substantive support to UNEP Textiles Initiative in stakeholder engagement of the InTex Indonesia project and other textiles related activities in Indonesia, including nodal ministry and relevant line ministries, industry associations; representatives from textile clusters; other organizations working on textiles in Indonesia; and other stakeholders as necessary. โ Helps coordinate and logistically leads organization of the InTex Indonesia Inter-Ministerial Advisory Group supporting the implementation of the project. โ Coordinates with the projectโs implementing partners and ensures close monitoring of progress and deliverables. Liaises with relevant parties and where relevant, identifies follow-up actions as appropriate. โ Contributes to and supports reviewing technical outputs as received from the implementing partner(s) of the InTex Indonesia project. โ Supports the organization of outreach activities; training workshops, seminars, presentations, etc. under the InTex Indonesia project and the developments from the outreach activities. โ Contributes to reporting of InTex Indonesia, including to the donor, for UNEPโs internal reporting system and in the UNSDCF -UNINFO portal. โ Stays abreast of developments relating to the textile sector in Indonesia and updates project team accordingly. โ Supports the compilation of UNEPโs inputs on the join UN programmes and documents, such as the Common-Country Analysis (CCA) in relation to aspects of the circular economy in the textiles sector. โ Collaborates and coordinates with other UN initiatives relevant for the InTex Indonesia project, such as projects linked to the Platform for Accelerating the Green Economy (PAGE). โ Performs other duties as required. Qualifications/special skillsMasterโs degree in one of the following areas: environmental sciences, environmental management, public administration, business administration or a related technical field. โ A minimum of five yearsโ experience in sustainability/ environmental management is required. โ Experience in circular economy and green economy development in Indonesia is required and experience from the textiles sector is desired. โ Extensive experience in effective coordination with proven results among diverse stakeholders, including national and sub-national governments and industry is required. โ Good organization skills in organizing events and workshops with diverse participants are required. โ Good organization skills in organizing events and workshops with diverse participants are required. โ Experience in project development and management and in monitoring and reporting project outputs and activities is required. โ Excellent oral and written communication skills is required. โ Knowledge of UNEPโs work on circular economy and/or lifecycle approaches is an desirable. โ Experience in the UN system is desirable.
