Prepare pre-session documents of the 2025 first session of the Executive Board Work LocationNairobi Expected duration5 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesOrganizational Setting and Reporting Relationships: The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the agency for human settlements mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. UN-Habitat helps the urban poor by transforming cities into safer and healthier places with better opportunities. It works with organizations at every level, including all spheres of government, civil society and the private sector. This post is located in the Governing Bodies Secretariat under the Office of the Executive Director. The Office of the Executive Director is responsible for the formulation of a clear and consistent vision for UN-Habitat , as well as the policies necessary to effectuate that vision; establishing operational priorities and strategies, in consultation with senior management of the programme ; ensuring effective management and accountability of the programme and budget; and engaging with key Member States and other stakeholders to secure both political and financial support for UN-Habitat. The Governing Bodies Secretariat is responsible for organizing and servicing of the meetings of the Governing Bodies of UN-Habitat which include the UN-Habitat Assembly, Executive Board, and the Committee of Permanent Representatives. It is also responsible for high level liaison and communication with Governments and Permanent Missions and for providing guidance and advice to the Organization on diplomatic and political matters. The consultant reports to the Chief of the Governing Bodies Secretariat / Secretary to the Governing Bodies. Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Secretary to the Governing Bodies, the Individual Contractor will be responsible for the following duties: 1. Edit complex or politically sensitive material, normally without revision, to ensure accuracy, clarity, cohesion and conformity with United Nations standards, policy and practice. 2. Carry out more extensive editing where required, including rewriting, abridging and restructuring texts for greater readability and better logical sequence. 3. Carry out research to clarify ambiguities and rectify substantive errors. 4. Draw up guidelines for editors and determining desk-top publishing standards and practices. 5. Draft and review background papers, relevant documents, talking points, reports, speeches and other correspondence. 6. Review and edit reports, pre-session and post session documents 7. Draft, edit and review correspondence as needed for various purposes from the Organization. 8. Review and edit summary of minutes from the Working groups and the Bureau 9. Development and review of surveys including analysis of survey results. 10. Conduct research, compile and prepare summaries of background materials for use in the preparation of reports, briefs, and speeches. 11. Review and update information on the relevant websites for ease of access to Member States Qualifications/special skillsDegree in social sciences, communication, international relations or any related field Five years of experience in report writing in Government related meetings and inter-governmental meetings is required.
