Description

System Security Engineer in the Systems Security Engineering Section (TEC-ESS), Radio Frequency Systems Technology Division, Electrical Department, Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality.

The System Security Engineering Section, in full respect and compliance with the ESA Security Framework, covers the security engineering processes, techniques and technologies dealing with the security of systems from the end-to-end point of view, the subsystems, the elements and equipment contributing or implementing specific detection/mitigation and protection measures, the analysis and methodology for vulnerability assessments and standards, including system design tools and equipment.

Duties

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

โ€ข Participating in program reviews of projects (incl. HRE-OE Gateway) assessing design and implementation to ensure development is in line with relevant program security requirements. This would also involve analysing any RfW/RfDs on security requirements.
โ€ข Advising system developers on how to develop, implement and operate their experiments/systems to meet the relevant security requirements (flight and ground).
โ€ข Following up on the implementation to ensure compliance and successful security audit/scan/checks.
โ€ข Analysing threats (new vulnerabilities, risks, etc.), proposing appropriate mitigations and required countermeasures and following up with the implementation of the mitigation actions (either internally or with industry/partners).
โ€ข Organising vulnerability assessment and penetration testing campaigns, assessing the findings, proposing mitigations, and analyzing collected evidence of fixed and mitigated vulnerabilities.
โ€ข Helping or acting as a PSSO (Project/System Security Officer) supporting ISO (Information security Officer) in enforcing security implementation and countermeasures in relation to various stakeholders (payload and system development teams, service leads, industry, operational centres).
โ€ข Supporting the development and maintenance of various technical documents (requirements, security management plans, risk assessments, ICDs, etc.).
โ€ข Fostering new security application areas for multidisciplinary activities, placing emphasis on innovative concepts, cutting-edge technologies and system architectures in the field of security;
โ€ข Participating in the follow-up of industrial contracts related to procurement of expertise, technology development, laboratory tools, equipment, etc.
โ€ข Supporting and implementing ESA internal developments/projects to help them develop and maintain a strong security posture and ensure long-term security compliance.
โ€ข Proposing and supervising the implementation as a Technical Officer Research and Development activities.
โ€ข Continuously following technological trends and evolutions at the scientific fields relevant for this position.

Education

A Master's degree or PhD in Telecommunications Engineering or Cybersecurity or Computer / Network Engineering or Aerospace Engineering or in other relevant engineering field is required for this post.
