Description

Project Systems Engineer in the Systems and Concurrent Engineering Section (TEC-SYE), Systems Engineering Division (TEC-SY), Systems Department (TEC-S), Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality.

Duties

You will report to the Head of Section and within the technical fields described above.

As first assignment, you will be assigned as Systems Engineer to an ESA space mission project (e.g. TRUTHS or NGGM in Earth Observation Directorate, etc.) to support systems engineering with the following principal tasks and responsibilities:

โ€ข Establishing and consolidating the end-to-end system architecture and operations concept in line with the mission requirements and needs;
โ€ข Performing and evaluating system design trade-off studies, where needed, and ensuring that the requirements, design and performances are consistent with the system-level needs;
โ€ข Defining, allocating, consolidating, maintaining and verifying the system (ground and space) as well as the external and internal interface requirements, while ensuring traceability and coherence with mission requirements and technical and programmatic constraints;
โ€ข Establishing, consolidating, maintaining and analysing all system budgets including performances throughout the project life cycle, ensuring their compliance with mission requirements;
โ€ข Preparing and supervising verification activities at mission and ground segment levels, including resolution of systems engineering non-conformances;
โ€ข Providing regular reporting to the Project Line Manager, identifying technological and performance risk areas, as well as proposing and implementing agreed improvements and mitigation measures;
โ€ข Coordinating the various project engineering domains in support of the systems engineering function;
โ€ข When applicable, establishing the autonomy and operability concept and supporting the fault detection, isolation and recovery (FDIR) definition;
โ€ข When applicable, supporting the mission Science Team for the maintenance and evolution of mission performance requirements and their flow-down to systems engineering;
โ€ข When applicable, supporting the implementation of MBSE (model-based systems engineering) in the project;
โ€ข When applicable, leading and coordinating maintenance of the project requirements database, ensuring the seamless coordination of requirements management between industry and ESA;
โ€ข Supporting the implementation of the end-to-end mission simulator, the ground prototype processor and the verification of the mission products;
โ€ข Preparing LEOP and in-flight satellite and end-to-end commissioning and verification activities in coordination with the ESA project team, industrial consortium and ground team;
โ€ข Monitoring the implementation of the Life Cycle Analysis and Zero Debris Policy in accordance with the initiatives of the Agencyโ€™s Clean Space Office;
โ€ข Regularly liaising with the Systems and Concurrent Engineering Section for the capture and transfer of knowledge and lessons learned across the Agency.

โ€ข Multidisciplinary knowledge of area of responsibility, in particular for Earth Observation satellite systems and related systems engineering.
โ€ข Experience in the implementation of MBSE in a project environment.
โ€ข Experience in requirements engineering using DOORS or equivalent.
โ€ข Experience in commissioning and operational preparation, and familiarity with satellite test sequence preparation.

In principle, recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However, if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the masterโ€™s degree, the position may be filled at A1 level.
