Expected duration2-6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Secretary-General is responsible for the investment of the assets of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF). The Secretary-General has delegated this responsibility to the Representative of the Secretary-General for the investment of the assets of the UNJSPF (RSG). The RSG heads the Office of Investment Management (OIM), which manages approximately $80+ billion multi-asset class, global investment portfolio, about 80% of which is actively managed in-house. Asset classes under management comprise global equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, timber and commodities. This internship position is located in the Sustainable Investment- Impact and Partnerships Team within the Office of Investment Management of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund. As part of the Sustainable Investing team and reporting to the Chief Investment Officer, the unit oversees the definition and execution of the fundโ€™s impact investing programme and manages stakeholders such as external managers and stewardship service providers. The Impact and Partnerships unit works closely with the rest of the investment teams to define an impact investing approach across asset classes, conducts impact investing due diligence following industry standards and conducts impact portfolio monitoring. The unit also coordinates the fundโ€™s stewardship strategy, to enhance OIMโ€™s investment impact through oversight of proxy voting and engagement activities. The incumbent reports to the Associate Investment Officer. The incumbent can work full time or part time, in-person at OIMโ€™s office in New York or remotely and can be adjusted based on the request of the successful candidate. With appropriate guidance, the intern will be responsible for the following tasks: 1) Impact Investing: Assist in the continuous development of OIMโ€™s impact investing framework, including policies, processes, procedures and implementation plan. Understanding the exposure of UNJSPFโ€™s to impact themes and sustainable opportunities. Tasks: โ€ข Assist in the development and implementation of an impact investing due diligence process. โ€ข Contribute to the development of a norms-based assessment framework to apply to the impact investing portfolio. โ€ข Data) to integrate flags and ESG analysis into impact due diligence processes. โ€ข Assist in the development of an impact framework for fixed income, to be applied to green, social, sustainability and MDB bonds. โ€ข Map the current UNJSPF investment portfolio across asset classes (equities, fixed income, private markets) against the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) using industry-recognised methodologies. 2) External Managers Project: ESG and Impact Investing pre-investment due diligence external managers across all asset classes. Post-investment ESG and Impact Investing monitoring of external managers, including engagement to encourage best practice. Tasks: โ€ข Evaluate existing climate disclosure from UNJSPFโ€™s external managers in both public and private markets. โ€ข Assess external managersโ€™ alignment with net zero targets, identify misalignment with market practice following reporting, prepare new monitoring material for managers to prepare for 2025 engagement and reporting. โ€ข PRI monitoring- Gathering private markets GPs and public markets managersโ€™ PRI ratings and scorecard to inform managersโ€™ alignment with OIM PRI signature requirement and future engagement Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelorโ€™s degree or equivalent). Applicants who have graduated as defined in (a) or (b) above, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
