ย The Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities. Interns must be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience.ย
ย In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:
ย a) have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities; b) are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or for whom internship is required to complete their studies; or c) are sponsored by governmental/non governmental institutions and/or academia to work in specific areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor. d) are either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelorโs level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months. e) are between 20 and 36 years of age.
ย Background Information
IOM was founded in 1951 to bring Europeans ravaged by the Second World War to safe shores and new lives. In September 2016, IOM became the UN Migration Agency following an agreement with the UN signed during the Summit for Refugees and Migrants. The new status of IOM as a Related Organization to the UN aims at establishing better coordination of efforts among relevant agencies to ensure that the issues of migrants are comprehensively addressed. IOM is committed to the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and the whole of society.
Supply Chain Division has overall responsibility for the optimized working of the supply chain operations in IOM Jordan (Gaza Response). Field missions are responsible for executing supply chain operations for their offices in line with the procedures, as well as all other applicable instructions, and in particular are in charge of:
- Identifying needs, forecasting the demand and producing a plan in coordination with programme managers for procurement, logistic and assets activities;ย
- Assessing national markets and logistics capacities in the mission;ย
- Executing all relevant procurement and logistics transactions needed in the mission or office and/or liaise with Manila Supply Chain Unit and/or the Regional Supply Chain for support;ย
- Ensuring the implementation of the IOM Supply Chain Strategy in the mission or office;ย
- Identify training needs in the mission or office in coordination with the RSCS, where present. Supervision
- Under the overall supervision of the Supply Chain Officer (Gaza Response), the intern will support the implementation of various supply chain activities in the office.Learning Objectives
- Learning and understanding of Supply Chain Management and coordination between multiple stakeholders;ย
- Increased understanding of the Mission Logistic operations including custom clearance, warehouse, transportationย Training Components and Learning Elements
- Prepare documentation to support execution of logistics operations (e.g. customs clearance, transport, warehousing, management) and/or provide any other required administrative/documentary support.ย
- Assist in monitoring the inventory management process to track the inventory status from receipt to dispatch to final delivery points.ย
- Support day-to-day administrative tasks to ensure smooth functioning of the unit.ย
- Support invoice processing, liaise whenever necessary with service provider/partner/retailer to expedite the process.ย
- Support the maintenance of office files, documents and records in accordance with established systems and processes, so that information is current and readily available for staff.ย
- Support any other supply chain related tasks as required. Education
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a relevant university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); or
- Be enrolled in a relevant graduate degree programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
- Have graduated with a relevant university or graduate degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within one-year of graduation.Skills
