Work LocationUN-House ESCWA Expected duration3 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesResilient and agile national statistical systems: Improving Production and Communication of SDG Data to Leave No One Behind through modernization and improved coordination. Responsibilities: Within delegated authority, Statistical Assistants will be responsible for the following duties: โ€ข Assists in data collection, compilation and dissemination. โ€ข Generates tables and graphs. โ€ข Participates in the review and compilation of background materials. โ€ข Assists in evaluating and examining data sets for accuracy, clarity and validity from different sources. โ€ข Compiles basic statistical series for comparison against different sources. โ€ข Updates statistical series in established formats for upload into the data portal and maintenance of relevant computerized databases. โ€ข Participate in drafting statistical reports and provides statistics and information for publication. โ€ข Assist in liaising with national statistical offices and focal points in the United Nations system organizations to obtain necessary statistical and other relevant information. โ€ข Prepares data sets upon request; responds to queries/requests. โ€ข Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications/special skillsA Bachelorโ€™s degree in statistics, economics, finance or related area is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of one year of work experience in statistics or related area is required. Knowledge of drafting reports is required. Knowledge of Excel is required. Knowledge in research and data analysis is required. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required. Fluency in Arabic is desirable. Note: โ€œFluencyโ€ equals a rating of โ€˜fluentโ€™ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and โ€œKnowledge ofโ€ equals a rating of โ€˜confidentโ€™ in two of the four areas.
