STATISTICAL ANALYST

JOB SUMMARY
The Statistical Analyst will be responsible for providing professional statistical support to research studies in the field of crime and security. This position will be responsible for data collection, the establishment of data collection instruments, data analysis and interpretation along with the management of statistical modeling software and reporting.
DUTIES AND RESPONSILITIES
Use statistical software and other methods to analyse and interpret research data. Develop, program, and maintain complex statistical databases. Enter and format data to develop and prepare reports, charts, tables, and other related documents. Participate in the development of statistical methodology, study design and data analysis. Initiate and co-ordinate the development of appropriate methods for obtaining relevant data. Select data samples, prepare questionnaires, and surveys, and conduct logic checks to maintain data quality. Assist with the interpretation and use of extracted data. Lead the development of standard operating procedures for statistical methodologies and concepts, inclusive of coordinating with other development partners. Support the various projects at CARICOM IMPACS such as irregular migration patterns by liaising with the project team and various stakeholders. Remain current with the latest trends and technologies for data extraction and analysis by liaising with international and regional statisticians/statistical bodies. Evaluate the Agencyโs decisions and recommendations based on data trends. Undertakes other duties which may arise or as may be delegated from time to time.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Finance or a closely related field in Social Sciences from a recognized institution. A Post Graduate degree will be considered an asset. A minimum of three (3) years of related work experience, training. Proficient in statistical analysis and systems programming. Demonstrated experience undertaking complex statistical programming. Experience designing, implementing, maintaining large and complex databases. Demonstrated knowledge of statistical computer packages, including R or STATA. Expert skills in analysis and consultation. Skills to effectively communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and written. Ability to communicate highly complex analysis to non-technical audiences. Skills in project management. Research skills at a level to evaluate alternate solutions and develop recommendations. Ability to recommend plans for research design. Knowledge of graphic and narrative techniques for the presentation of data. Knowledge of mathematics and statistical theory. Considerable knowledge of, and ability to use, Microsoft Office Suite and other statistical applications e.g., quantitative frequency distribution, regression analysis as well as chart applications such as I2, link analysis, commodity flow, time flow and telephone toll to create association matrices will be an asset. Ability to multi-task, respond to ad hoc requests and operate in a voluminous, fast paced environment. A clear understanding of the Regional Crime and Security Architecture will be an asset. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
