Spanish Language Translator
Child Protection Unit
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is inviting offers and expressions of interest from qualified Spanish (Latin American) language professionals with expertise and experience in child protection for the provision of translation service for the technical material developed by the Division of International Protectionโs Child Protection Unit.
In its efforts to strengthen UNHCRโs child protection capacity through development of knowledge and skills amongst its workforce and partners, in 2022 and 2023 the Child Protection Unit completed the development of a range of Guidance and learning products. In addition, the Unit is finalising the development of a Child Protection Policy. The Guidance and learning products include the Data Protection and Information Sharing Guidance Note, the Issue Brief on Child Protection and MHPSS, the UNHCR-UNICEF Inclusion Toolkit, and the Child Protection Job Aid. In addition, CPU intends on making the BIP Toolbox available in multiple languages to facilitate accessibility and navigation for UNHCR staff and partners.
Once translation is completed, the products will be sent for graphic design. The contractor will also be responsible for reviewing the designed documents, propose corrections, and support the finalisation of the products.

Organisational context
The Child Protection Unit and Youth Unit lead UNHCRโs institutional work on child protection in the Division of International Protection at UNHCR Headquarters. This work includes providing principled and practical guidance on key areas of work such as the Best Interests Procedure, Child Friendly Procedure, and support to youth programming.
The position
The consultant will report to the Child Protection Officer and will work closely with the focal points in the Child Protection Unit for each document/material to ensure that the translation is completed, and designed versions are reviewed, corrected and finalized for launch. The consultant will also liaise with a small group of UNHCR staff who are bilingual who will be available to advise on terminology as needed.

2. Ensure reference material in the documents are linked to the respective Spanish language material where available.
3. Review the designed version of one translated material (Child Protection Policy and the Issue Brief on Child Protection and MHPSS), make necessary corrections, and support the finalization for launch.
Essential minimum qualifications and professional experience required
The ideal candidate will [list qualifications and experience below, for example:]
โข Advanced university degree in International Law, Human Rights, International Development, International Relations, Political or Social Science
โข 6 years of relevant experience with an advanced university degree
โข Spanish (Latin American) and English language proficiency
โข Experience in working on child protection and other humanitarian protection fields.
โข Experience in drafting or editing child protection and/or other humanitarian protection documents is required
โข Experience in carrying out technical review or proof-reading English-Spanish child protection global guidance and familiar with the child protection terminology in the Minimum Standards in Child Protection in Humanitarian Action in Spanish and English
โข Familiarity and/or willingness to use online translation platform for translating XLIFF file formats
โข Organisational awareness skills are desirable.
