Senior Scientific Officer ? Groundnut and Sesame

ICRISAT seeks applications from dynamic Indian nationals for the position of Senior Scientific Officer under Global Research Program Accelerated Crop Improvement at ICRISAT Patancheru. The incumbent will support in the breeding field activities of Groundnut and Sesame Crops. The position is responsible for supporting the conductance of Groundnut and Sesame breeding and Project partner?s trials, breeding streaming activities, data analysis work and preparation of project reports under the supervision and guidance of Principal Scientist-Groundnut Breeding. This position is based at ICRISAT Headquarters, Patancheru, Telangana, India.

Responsibilities:

Involve in implementation of QC in Groundnut breeding pipeline

Analyze, summarize, interpret and disseminate the data of the experiments conducted, as appropriate and regularly update all the breeding nurseries and testing data (of trials) on BMS (Breeding Management System)

Conduct yield evaluation trials at ICRISAT-Patancheru and project locations

Train the field technicians in groundnut and sesame breeding and testing operations

Develop and handle groundnut and sesame segregating populations as per the agreed plans and guidance of supervisor

Assist in selection of breeding materials, seed production and constitution of Groundnut and Sesame trials for multi-location testing

Assist in monitoring of project trials and strategic trials at out locations

Assist in integration of pathology screening facility for identification of resistant sources in Groundnut and Sesame breeding material

Assist in annual work plan development and preparation of mid-term and annual reports of projects

Assist in migration of Groundnut breeding data from HQ and partner sites, location info and pedigree to BMS platform

Work with an interdisciplinary team of scientists, including molecular geneticists, physiologists, pathologists, entomologists, agronomists, socioeconomists, seed systems specialists and technology transfer experts at ICRISAT

Ensures the execution of breeding experiments of Groundnut and Sesame, testing the and seed systems activities as per the agreed plans and schedules

Identifies and resolves quality issues in developing new products as per the agreed product profiles

Inculcate a culture of continuous improvement of self and team members

Requirement:

An M.Sc. degree in Plant Breeding and Genetics from a reputed university with sound academic record

At least 5 years of work experience in crop and related field and lab operations experience

Experience on oilseeds improvement research will be an added advantage

Knowledge on crop and nutrient management will be a preference

Sound knowledge and technical skills in plant breeding data analysis and computer programs

General:

This is a contractual role for a period of 36 months (3 years).
