ย
The position is located in the Traditional Knowledge Division. The Division promotes and supports implementation of the WIPO Treaty on Intellectual Property, Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge, 2024 (the GRATK Treaty), facilitates international negotiations on intellectual property (IP) and genetic resources (GRs), traditional knowledge (TK) and traditional cultural expressions (TCEs) and undertakes a wide range of complementary capacity-building and technical assistance projects and activities for the benefit of Member States, regional organizations and Indigenous Peoples, as well as local communities.

b.ย ย ย Purpose Statement
ย
The main role of the incumbent is to design, organize, coordinate and participate in large Division-wide processes and activities, such as sessions of the WIPO Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore (IGC) and related meetings and activities, and significant cross-cutting capacity-building activities and technical assistance projects.

ย
The incumbent works under the supervision of the Director of the Traditional Knowledge Division or their delegate.

d.ย ย ย Work Relations
ย
The incumbent works closely with other WIPO programs and Member States, the United Nations, intergovernmental organizations and other stakeholders, especially Indigenous Peoples, as well as local communities.

2.ย ย ย ย Duties and Responsibilities
ย
The incumbent will perform the following principal duties:
ย
a.ย Design, organize and participate in activities related to the promotion and implementation of the GRATK Treaty.
ย
b.ย Plan, organize, coordinate and participate in IGC sessions and related meetings and activities; interpret and advise on procedures and rules; clear and approve routine documents and correspondence; administer the WIPO Voluntary Fund.
ย
c.ย Design, plan, budget for, implement, monitor and evaluate technical assistance and capacity-building projects and activities.
ย
d.ย Represent the Division at technical assistance and capacity-building programs and other related international and national meetings, seminars, or conferences.
ย
e.ย Provide strategic advice for and participate in the strengthening of meaningful alliances and partnerships with Member States, organizations and associations and the private sector on issues relating to GRs, TK and TCEs.
ย
f.ย ย Prepare and review a diverse range of internal and external documents such as publications, guides and internal performance and other reporting to support the work of the Division.
ย
g.ย Ensure impactful and timely internal and external communications relating to the work of the Division.
ย
h.ย Supervise junior staff as and when required.
ย
i.ย ย Perform other related duties as required.

3.ย ย ย ย Requirements
ย
Education (Essential)
Advanced degree in law, economics, international relations, development studies or a related field. A first-level university degree plus two years of relevant experience in addition to the experience requested below may be acceptable in lieu of an advanced university degree.

Education (Desirable)
A post-graduate qualification in IP (such as a degree, diploma or completion of an accredited course).
ย
Project management certification.
ย
Experience (Essential)
At least seven years of relevant professional experience, related to IP, in development cooperation and/or in intergovernmental negotiations in an international organization.
ย
Experience (Desirable)
Experience in policy and legal analysis in relation to IP, preferable in relation to GRs, TK and/or TCEs.
ย
Experience with results-based management.
ย
Experience in the supervision of more junior staff.
ย
Language (Essential)
Excellent written and spoken knowledge of English.

Language (Desirable)
Knowledge of other United Nations languages.
