Tetra Tech International Development (International Development Jobs - Tetra Tech), is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for a potential Senior Market & Trade Advisor position for the FEWS NET 8 (Famine Early Warning Systems Network) Decision Support Contract. This position will be based in Arlington, Virginia. Hybrid and remote options are available.
Position Description/Summary: FEWS NET is dedicated to delivering early warning of hazards, food insecurity, vulnerability, and famine to the US Government, USAID, national governments, and various regional, international, and non-governmental organizations. FEWS NET 8 will continue the critical work that FEWS NET has delivered for over 30 years, emphasizing global coverage and innovation in food security monitoring and assessment. Managed from a headquarters office in Washington D.C., FEWS NET 8 will extend its reach beyond traditional geographical limitations, providing decision support services for over 30 presence countries and global early warning of food security and humanitarian crises.
The Senior Market & Trade Advisor will analyze market and trade dynamics, develop market-based food security strategies, and engage with stakeholders to influence policy. They will also monitor intervention impacts and provide expert advice on market-related issues.
Responsibilities:
* Analyze market systems, trade policies, and economic factors that influence food security at local, national, and global levels.
* Develop market-based strategies to enhance food availability, access, and utilization, including market facilitation, value chain development, and trade facilitation.
* Engage with policymakers, trade bodies, and private sector stakeholders to advocate for policy reforms that support food security.
* Monitor and assess the impact of market and trade interventions on food security outcomes, adapting strategies in response to changing market conditions.
* Provide expert advice on commodity markets, price trends, and trade dynamics, which will inform the project's strategic direction and intervention design.
* Lead efforts to build local capacity in market analysis and trade facilitation, supporting sustainable food security solutions.
* Collaborate with regional and international organizations to align market and trade interventions with broader food security initiatives.
* Develop and maintain tools for market monitoring, including early warning systems for market shocks and food price volatility.
* Document market and trade-related findings and disseminate insights through reports, presentations, and knowledge-sharing platforms.
* Mentor and support project staff in developing expertise in market and trade analysis, ensuring a high level of technical capability within the team.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
* Minimum graduate degree in economics, business, international trade and development, or related field;
* At least 7 years of relevant experience in market and trade analysis, facilitation, investment prioritization, value chain development, and/or relevant policy interventions;
* Experience with USAID programs, policies, and procedures strongly preferred;
* Strong intercultural communication and interpersonal skills;
* Experience working in a multicultural and diverse environment;
* Fluency in English; proficiency in additional languages such as French or Spanish is advantageous; and
* Current U.S. work authorization is required at the time of application.
