Org. Setting and ReportingThe position is based in the Safety and Security Section within the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS), in Mogadishu. The Senior Field Security Assistant reports to UNSOS Chief Security Officer through the Head of Security Unit. ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority, the Senior Field Security Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: 1. Supervises the activities and operations of the office including the preparation of security office budgets. 2. Supports the Security Officer or Chief Security Officer to maintain continuing lines of communication with security focal points in all other agencies involved in peacekeeping and other missions to ensure maximum security coordination. 3. Analyses security related information, evaluates reports, and provides input to the United Nations Security Management Team on the implementation and evaluation of the effectiveness of the security plan. 4. Develops security contingency plans, SOPs and procedures, inductions, training in personal security awareness, hand-outs, and briefings to all categories of staff, non-staff, visitors, Area coordinators, and wardens. 5. Liaises with local authorities and police to review prevailing local security conditions, identifying security trends and advises staff, project personnel and dependents on potential security problems, such as mines, kidnapping, armed attacks, arrests and detentions. 6. Reviews investigation reports of incidents/accidents involving staff/eligible dependents, and loss or damage to property; ensures appropriate and timely remedial responses and actions. 7. Ensures that fire detection devices and fire-fighting equipment are available on the premises. Maintains fire evacuation plan and conducts fire drills and training as necessary. 8. Maintains an ongoing evaluation of air, land and sea evacuation routes and resources for use in emergencies, ensuring the availability of vehicles, aircraft, vessels, fuel supply and assessable roads. 9. Periodically checks emergency communications system to determine if system is functioning properly; arranges for necessary repairs or adjustments. 10. Ensures timely submission of periodical reports to the DSS Security Incident Reporting System and personnel lists. 11. Drafting analytical reports and assessments. 12. Performs all other related duties as required. Work ExperienceTen (10) years of experience in all areas of security operations with the national or UN Security is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to eight (8) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in the analysis of either security, crime, political, or military trends is desirable. Experience on data processing is desirable. Knowledge of security rules, regulations, and procedures of UN including fire safety and first aid procedures, as well as standard security and safety procedures is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English and Somali (both oral and written) is required. NOTE: \"fluency equals a rating of \"fluent\" in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and \" Knowledge of\" equals a rating of \" confident\" in two of the four areas.
