The Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) is looking for an experienced (Senior) Communications Specialist to manage ADBI's communications and outreach, including developing and implementing its related strategy, work plan, and programs. This is a Level C (senior) or Level D professional (international) staff position, based on ADBI standards, depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of ADBI's communication and outreach strategy, work plan, and programs
  • Manage and develop ADBIโ€™s flagship website, satellite websites, new digital platforms, and associated content
  • Lead the refinement, launch, operations, institutional partnership development, promotion, user growth, and overall management of ADBIโ€™s new information-sharing and collaboration site (web-based app), Think Asia; manage vendor issues
  • Oversee production, quality enhancement, branding, dissemination, and performance analytics of ADBI Press and copublished books and reports
  • Draft, edit, and manage overall production, messaging and delivery of news on ADBI initiatives, as well as blogs, podcasts, videos, e-learning, and social media content
  • Oversee media engagement; organize/co-organize outreach events
  • Edit and lead overall production and management of ADBI event pages, calls for papers and proposals, job ads, staff profiles, and other content
  • Drive communications, outreach, and coordination for ADBI in the G20 and G7โ€™s official think tank engagement groupsโ€”Think20 (T20) and Think7 (T7); enhance partnership with other think tanks and stakeholders more broadly
  • Oversee ADBIโ€™s corporate image and promotional materials
  • Manage ADBIโ€™s 3-Year Rolling Work Program and Budget report production and review process; lead related coordination with ADBI-Asian Development Bank (ADB) headquarters executives and departments
  • Deliver presentations on ADBI communications and outreach and provide broader production and coordination support for ADBI Advisory Council Meetings, ADB Across-the-Board meetings, and other institutional governance activities
  • Supervise a team of consultants and service providers; manage ADBI outreach budgets and vendor relationships
  • Other duties as assigned by Director, AMC or Dean, ADBI

    Requirements

    • Masterโ€™s degree or equivalent in communications, journalism, public policy, international relations, or related fields. Alternatively, a relevant university degree and at least 5 additional years of specialized experience in lieu of a masterโ€™s degree
    • At least 8-10 years of total relevant work experience, including internationally and with a demonstrated understanding of economic and sustainable development issues, particularly in Asia and the Pacific
    • Significant experience preparing and implementing strategic communications plans in an international organization is desired
    • Demonstrated team and project management experience
    • Strong knowledge of web/digital technologies and practices, and a proven track record applying them to advance an organizationโ€™s communications objectives
    • Good understanding of current publishing, media, social media, and digital content environment and promotion strategies
    • An eye for design and experience leading visual identity and brand development
    • Native-level written and spoken English, including editing and copywriting skills
    • Excellent interpersonal communication and organization skills

Appointment Terms

This is a special fixed term staff position based in Tokyo for an initial term of 3 years. At the ADBI's sole option, the appointment may be extended on an exceptional basis for a further fixed term (generally up to 2 years). Conversion into a regular indefinite appointment is precluded. A special fixed term appointment will automatically and without prior notice expire at the end of the original or extended term.

ADBI offers an internationally competitive compensation package based in US dollars (paid in Japanese yen). Salaries and expatriate benefits are generally free of tax except for citizens of some countries.
