The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is a diverse and multicultural organisation with colleagues from over 60 countries. Launched in 2019, the Innovation Hub (IH) of the BIS is a group of multidisciplinary centres located in Canada, the Eurozone, Hong Kong SAR, the Nordics, Singapore, Switzerland and the UK, together with a Strategic Partnership with the Federal Reserve. The BISIH mandate is to promote technological innovation in the financial sector, by identifying critical trends in the technology space of importance to the central banking community, developing new technological products that will serve as “global public goods” to strengthen the functioning of the global financial system, and fostering a network of central bank experts on innovation.

We are looking for multi skilled and talented individuals with a deep passion for technology and innovation. You are, curious about emerging trends in technology and wish to contribute to a dynamic and thought leading programme of work in the IH. You can work in a fast-paced environment, in an independent, proactive, structured, creative and flexible manner. You have excellent communication skills in English, both orally and in writing.

Accountabilities: For positions in the Eurosystem, Hong Kong, Toronto, Singapore, Nordic, and the Swiss Centres the successful candidates will contribute to a wide range of project-related activities that explore the impact of technological developments on financial markets and central banks. Tasks may include scoping and investigating new project ideas, contributing to specific project tasks or identifying and working with external suppliers. For positions in the Strategy and Operations unit (located at BIS Headquarters, Basel), the successful candidate will contribute, in close collaboration with the IH Centres, to the preparation of strategy documents, background notes and reports for the BIS governing bodies, and liaise with other BIS Departments, Committee Secretariats and the FSB Secretariat to advance work on issues relevant to the IH and to coordinate contributions to international work in the G20.

Secondment terms: This is a co-funded arrangement where the secondee remains an employee of the seconding organisation and therefore continues to receive a full salary from the sending organisation. Therefore, candidates are requested to confirm their organisation’s support for this secondment.

The BIS will provide a monthly living allowance, temporary furnished accommodation, health insurance and return flights.

The secondment opportunities will be based in Frankfurt (Eurosystem Centre), Paris (Eurosystem Centre), Hong Kong SAR (Hong Kong Centre), Singapore, Toronto, Stockholm (Nordic Centre), Zurich/Basel (Swiss Centre) and Basel (Strategy and Operations unit) and will be filled on a competitive basis. Indicate in your application the Centre / Team you are applying for – you may select a maximum of two locations in your application.

The duration of the secondment may be between 6 months and 18 months, with a start date as from Fall 2024. Exact start date and duration will be decided by the BIS together with the seconding organisation.

Duration preferences may be indicated in the application. For contract durations of between 13 and 18 months, there is an option for family members to accompany the secondee.
