World Wildlife Fund (WWF), one of the worldโ€™s leading conservation organizations, seeks a Seascapes Director, Western Pacific


Major Function

The Seascapes Director for the Western Pacific (Fiji, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia) is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and monitoring of the Western Pacific nature-positive seascape strategy. They will work collaboratively and cross-functionally to build out, manage, and implement a robust, integrated seascape approach with priority offices within the WWF network and will serve as a liaison and point of contact on issues related to science, protected area, fisheries, species and other marine conservation priorities in the Western Pacific seascape for the other WWF-US Goal and Influence teams. They will be responsible for supporting fundraising efforts, including focus on providing technical and programmatic support for both Public Funding and Blended Finance Pipelines.

Responsibilities

Leads the development and implementation of an integrated nature-positive seascape strategy for the Western Pacific as part of the WWF-US Oceans Area Based Conservation program, in close collaboration with the VP, Oceans Area Based Conservation, Oceans team content experts, and WWF network offices, including WWF Pacific. The Director will also identify opportunities to engage other teams within WWF-US and the network to ensure the successful implementation and delivery of this strategy.Leads and supports the development of funding proposals, together with senior management and development staff, to advance a strategic WWF-US Oceans conservation portfolio focused on supporting nature-positive seascapes that benefit the planet, people, prosperity, and peace.Commissions and leverages cutting-edge science on fisheries, climate change impacts, and nature-based solutions to ensure WWF strategies are informed by sound science, policy, and other learnings, and WWF is recognized as a thought leader in applying area-based and whole-planet solutions to achieve nature positive seascapes.Liaises and maintains relationships with appropriate field staff, WWF-US, and network colleagues to ensure delivery of WWF-US Oceans, area-based conservation, and seascapes goals and programming.Builds and maintains an extensive network of professionals and partnerships in the oceans conservation sector and related fields to foster and leverage strategic collaboration, advancing WWFโ€™s Oceans and area-based conservation goals. Represents WWF in meetings and other forums to promote WWFโ€™s conservation goals, activities, and thought leadership in conservation. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience. An advanced degree is required.Experience with major-donor projects and partnerships is important. Experience managing staff, contractors, and relationships with clients and/or funders or leading/managing multiple projects/ programs and teams. Excellent interpersonal skills, including knowing when to use courtesy, tact, and/or diplomacy to effectively communicate with all constituents, as well as experience working in international developing country contexts.Strong written and verbal communication skills, including effective public speaking and the ability to communicate complex issues verbally and in writing. Ability to effectively prioritize and produce high-quality work under time constraints. Excellent organizational and project leadership skills. Proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a matrixed team environment.Ability to operate with independence and under pressure to meet deadlines and commitments. Willingness to travel up to 20%Flexible working hours to take calls with Western Pacific time zonesFamiliarity with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
