COOPERATION AND TRANSFORMATIVE GOVERNANCE (CAT) RESEARCH GROUP
The CAT Research group, part of the IIASA Advancing Systems Analysis (ASA) Program is offering an opportunity in the analysis of disaster risk management, multi-criteria decision-making, and modeling.
MAIN Tasks AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Online data collection and management.
- Statistical analysis.
- Programming and app development.
- Analysis of social media and disaster risk management.
- Analysis and application of multi criteria decision methods.
- Writing and submission of papers.
- Contribution to funding proposal development.
- In line with the team spirit that prevails at IIASA, the incumbent may occasionally work on other tasks assigned by their superiors, that might not be directly related to this appointment but where the post holder has relevant experience and skills, and/or a shortage of immediate personnel capabilities requires such.
REquirements
- A PhD degree (or equivalent) in Statistics, or Applied Mathematics
- Strong Statistical, analytical, quantitative and programming skills (R; Python or other statistical Software).
- Experience in app development, API and other open-source data retrieval.
- Capacity to take up novel topics and lead them to successful completion within strict timelines.
- Experience in and a track record of publications in the analysis of disaster risk management, multi-criteria decision-making, and modeling.
- Knowledge of Big Data, Web, and Text mining.
- Excellent command of English, both in spoken and written form.

Appointment Terms
The selected candidate should be available to take up the position as soon as possible. We offer an initial fixed-term, full-time (40 hours per week) employment contract for one year, with the possibility of extension thereafter.
Duties will be carried out at the IIASA premises in Laxenburg, near Vienna and at fieldwork sites within Austria.
The successful candidate will be appointed as an R2 researcher in accordance with the IIASA profiles for research careers.

at least EUR 48,050.00, which is exempt from income tax in Austria.In addition, IIASA salaries are:
- Subject to deductions for health insurance and/or social security.
- Not directly comparable with other employers in Austria, due to the unique legal status and privileges granted to IIASA.
- Subject to the principle of income aggregation (Progressionsvorbehalt in German).
