Job Summary

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a qualified candidate to serve as Research Analyst I/II in its Development Strategies and Governance Unit (DSG). The position will be based in New Delhi India, with frequent travel and extended stays in different parts of rural India, Bangladesh and Nepal. The successful candidate will work with large secondary datasets, and on studies involving household survey data collection and analysis. We prefer candidates planning to apply for a PhD in 2-3 years. Interested applicants must have work authorization to work in India.

Essential Duties:

Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with the development and implementation of quantitative surveys in developing countries, including questionnaire development, field team training and development of software applications for recording interview responses on tablet computers
  • Managing field data collection and experiments in rural India
  • The organization, cleaning, and analysis of large datasets
  • Collaborating on analysis of survey data with the research team
  • Assistance in the preparation project reports, policy briefs and journal articles
  • Other duties as assigned which may include literature reviews and co-authoring papers

    Required Qualifications:

    • Research Analyst I: Bachelorโ€™s degree plus two years of relevant professional experience or Masterโ€™s degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Statistics, Public Policy or a closely related field
    • Research Analyst II: Masterโ€™s degree in one of the above fields plus minimum three years of post-masterโ€™s relevant experience
    • Demonstrated experience working with large quantitative data sets (data cleaning, management, analysis, etc.)
    • Knowledge of standard econometric tools
    • Excellent Stata skills
    • Fluency in written and spoken English
    • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision

      Preferred skills

      • Experience with data entry and CAPI software packages (ODK, Surveybe, Epi Info, etc.)
      • Demonstrated strong writing skills
      • Training and experience in methods for designing and conducting impact evaluations, including randomized controlled trials (RCT), and other methods
      • Experience in survey design, questionnaire design, and conducting and supervising household surveys in India
      • Experience working in rural India
      • Data scraping skills from internet

        Physical Demands and Work Environment

        • Employee will sit in an upright position for a long period of time.
        • Employee will lift between 0-10 pounds.
        • Employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing computer terminal; extensive reading.
