Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackgroud Created in December 1999, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the designated focal point in the United Nations system for the coordination of efforts to reduce disasters and to ensure synergies among the disaster reduction activities of the United Nations and regional organizations and activities in both developed and less developed countries. Led by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction (SRSG), UNDRR has over 150 staff located in its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and in regional offices. Specifically, UNDRR guides, monitors, analyses and reports on progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, supports regional and national implementation of the Framework and catalyses action and increases global awareness to reduce disaster risk working with U.N. Member States and a broad range of partners and stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians and the science and technology community. The internship is UNPAID and designed to be full-time and remote. Interns work five (5) days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of the Officer-in-charge of the internship. Duties and Responsibilities The internship is for a duration of six (6) months. The internship is UNPAID and designed to be full-time and remote. The intern will report to the External Relations Officer in the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean. 1. Event Coordination and Logistics โ€ข Assist in planning and logistics coordination for the IX Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction for the Americas and the Caribbean 2026 (RP26), collaborating to the efficient execution of in-person, hybrid, and virtual sessions. โ€ข Support the identification and coordination of service providers for venues, interpretation, online platforms, production companies, and interactive tools. โ€ข Assist in developing and managing the run-of-show, speaker matrices, and session agendas. โ€ข Support briefing calls with panelists, stakeholders, and partners. โ€ข Help in the preparation of event materials, such as guidelines, concept notes, and presentations. 2. Administrative and Procurement Support โ€ข Provide support in procurement processes related to event services, including drafting terms of reference, obtaining quotations, and tracking contract progress. โ€ข Assist in managing participant registration and database maintenance. โ€ข Support the management of the general email inbox for event participants and stakeholder inquiries. โ€ข Prepare and maintain event-related documentation and reports. 3. Outreach and Communications Support โ€ข Assist in drafting website announcements, press releases, and social media content to promote the Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (RPDRR). โ€ข Support the development of outreach materials, including graphics, videos, and pre-recorded messages. โ€ข Support the collection and organization of materials shared by partners and speakers for the effective sessionยดs implementation and website update such as official statements and pre-recorded videos. โ€ข Coordinate email alerts and newsletters for event participants in collaboration with the communications team. 4. Post-Event Activities โ€ข Support the collection and analysis of participant feedback and surveys. โ€ข Assist in the preparation of post-event reports, including lessons learned and best practices documentation. Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelorโ€™s level or equivalent). Interested candidates must be pursuing or pursued their degree in areas related to this Job Opening. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, Power Point and MS Teams. Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or PH.D.
