Description
The position is for a Dependability (RAM) and Safety Engineer for the ASECNA EGNOS project in the RAMS Section, Dependability and Product Assurance Support Division, Product Assurance and Safety Department, Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality. You will be assigned as integrated support to the EGNOS PA and Safety Unit (NAV-QR), PA&S Office, Directorate of Navigation.
Training and familiarisation with the parent Department's mandate, processes and procedures will be provided at the start of this assignment.
As Dependability (RAM) and Safety Engineer for the EGNOS project (ANGA system development), you will be deployed in the EGNOS PA and Safety Unit. You will report hierarchically to the Head of the EGNOS PA and Safety Unit, and functionally to the EGNOS Project Lead.
For the maintenance of professional standards, the implementation of the ESA general Product Assurance and Safety (PA&S) policy and contributions to corporate tasks (such as reviews, standardisation, alerts and lessons learned), you will report to the Head of the Product Assurance and Safety Department through the Head of the Product Assurance and Safety Office.
The EPO contribution to the ANGA system is an activity performed by ESA to provide support to a third-party international agency, ASECNA, for the development of this SBAS system, in line with an international agreement signed by ASECNA and ESA in 2022.
Duties
Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:
- implementing general programmatic and technical dependability and safety assurance requirements in relation to ESA standards and specifications, the ECSS
- establishing project specific programmatic and technical dependability and safety assurance requirements within the framework of the ESA product assurance baseline
- supporting projects in the evaluation of contractorsโ plans, technical specifications and efforts proposed for the execution of the dependability and safety assurance programmes
- supporting projects in the monitoring of the performance of contractorsโ dependability and safety assurance programmes to ensure their compliance with the applicable requirements, and directing and controlling risk reduction processes and any necessary preventive and corrective actions
- evaluating dependability and safety analyses, technical notes, technical risk assessments, risk reduction processes and the associated preventive or corrective actions
- defining and controlling the implementation of the applicable dependability and safety-related acceptance requirements, including risk acceptance criteria, and participating in project reviews to assess compliance with the applicable requirements and to formulate accept/reject recommendations
- evaluating proposed concepts, designs and operations for compliance with defined dependability and safety requirements
- liaising with software and hardware product assurance on related matters including certification needs
- liaising with security teams for topics with an impact on dependability or safety
- supporting research and study activities in the fields of dependability and safety requirements, techniques, tools and integrated engineering process methodologies and risk management methods
- monitoring applicable scientific and technological trends and maintaining state-of-the-art expertise
- participating in periodic meetings with the parent section, contributing to the transfer of technical knowledge and lessons learned across the Agency
Duties may also include supporting other activities within your field of competence and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency.

A masterโs degree in RAMS engineering or a similar technical field is required for this post.
Additional requirements
You have knowledge and experience of ECSS in dependability and safety analysis, and of civil aviation standards (DO-178B/C, DO-278A and DO-254).
Experience of certification processes would be considered a distinct advantage.
Knowledge and experience in the fields of global navigation satellite systems (GNSS), system certification processes, civil aviation standards, EASA certification specifications and European Commission regulations for European Air Traffic Management would be an advantage.
You should have good interpersonal and communication skills. You should be able to work autonomously, effectively and cooperatively in a diverse, international team environment and to define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines.
You should also have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to solving problems and an interest in innovative technologies.
You must be eligible for security clearance from your national security administration.
