Work LocationKathmandu, Nepal Expected durationSix (6) Months 1 April 2025 Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific (UNRCPD) is seeking for qualified interns for a maximum internship of six months, depending on the needs of UNRCPD and the willingness of applicant. UNRCPD is part of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs and located in Kathmandu, Nepal. The Regional Centre assists countries in Asia and the Pacific in achieving their peace, security and disarmament goals, through provision of substantive support, coordination of activities at sub-regional, regional and international levels, and information sharing on global and regional activities. According to its mandate, UNRCPD provides countries of the region, on request, aid and support for implementation of international agreements aimed preventing and combating illegal flows of conventional arms, promoting dialogue and confidence-building on global and regional issues related to arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation, addressing challenges to peace and security through engaging women and youth and promoting peace and disarmament education. To this end, the Regional Centre organizes seminars, workshops and trainings. In this regard, the intern will provide support in one or more of UNRCPD's key programmatic areas: 1. Weapons of Mass Destruction 2. Conventional Arms and Ammunition 3. Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Education 4. Cross Cutting Issues- Gender, Youth, Emerging Technologies Security Daily responsibilities will depend on the individualโ€™s background, the internโ€™s assigned tasks, and the internship period. Interns shall undertake the following duties which may include, but are not limited to: โ€ข Assist the Office with strategic communication and public outreach. โ€ข Assist in developing media products for web and social networking platforms. โ€ข Assist in developing content management and development of disarmament stories and information to increase awareness and understanding of the issues by key audiences through information posted on the Officeโ€™s website and through social media channels. โ€ข Assist with drafting and editing publications (e.g. fact sheets, brochures, newsletters and donor-related updates) for internal and external sources. โ€ข Design and produce presentations and supporting materials to increase ODAโ€™s visibility and outreach. โ€ข Proactively contribute suggestions and ideas for design projects that will add value to the work of the Office. โ€ข Perform any other duties as requested by the supervisor. *Applicants with personal access to Adobe Photoshop and InDesign are highly desirable and encouraged to apply. However, access to these programs is not a requirement for application. Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: a) be enrolled in, or have completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, b) be enrolled in, or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelorโ€™s level or equivalent) LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is desirable. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a professional staff member in the Centre to whom they are assigned. The incumbent reports to the Director of UNRCPD. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
