Work LocationJuba Expected durationUntil 30 June 2024 Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis position is located in the Communications & Public Information Service within the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS), Juba. Juba is classified in the \"E\" category and as a non-family duty station. The Public Information Assistants reports to the Chief of Service, Public Information through Public Information Officer Within delegated authority, the Public Information Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: • Researches a broad scope of information sources, printed and electronic, compile and present information for use in the preparation and production of communications products/services for external audiences. • Provides specialized assistance in the design, production and delivery of information, communications products and services. • Assists in various phases of the production and distribution of recorded radio programming and products for a Community Outreach designated radio programme: participates in Community Outreach and Radio editorial meetings. • Organizes and executes events, campaigns for diverse target audience, coordinating with partners and the media to highlight and publicize key events. • Drafts key messages for activities, and public service announcements to give visibility of UNMISS. • Assists in the timely electronic/digital or internet dissemination/distribution of a Community Outreach radio programmes: prepares, maintains and updates web page, to include drafting and editing of content; uploads/downloads audio files; undertakes proactive calls and direct mail initiatives to build client base and nurture relationships; manages, updates and further develops internal databases. • Working closely with the Community Outreach Unit, gathers news through talking to a variety of sources, interviews contributors and gathers background and supporting material. • Maintains journalistic and professional standards under deadlines and pressure. • Consistently files stories according to assigned deadlines. • Follows local, national and international news as they relate to South Sudan and activities of the UN to propose stories relevant for the Community Radio programme. • Conducts, records and edits interviews using digital audio equipment to a high standard. • Produces and presents Community Outreach radio shows English and Arabic. • Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications/special skillsHigh school diploma or equivalent is required. Technical training and certification in journalism or broadcasting, communications, public information, or a particular communications medium is desired. At least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in public communication, international broadcasting or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to 3 for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
