Job Summary
The Hygiene Promotion Officer will form part of the Hygiene Promotion and Community Mobilisation Team in delivering support to IDP host communities and returnees in Plateau. The Hygiene Promotion Officer will work with partners and locally recruited Community Mobilisers to lead the delivery of hygiene promotion messaging and create hygiene behaviour change. The Hygiene Promotion Officer will also capitalise on their community mobilisation role to support shelter/WASH infrastructure sensitisation and messaging.ย ย
In light of the high vulnerabilities of CRSโ targeted populations, including a high level of reported trauma, it is anticipated that this Hygiene Promotion Role will also include a focus on Protection and Gender Mainstreaming across Shelter, WASH and NFI programs. This role will be based in Jos, Plateau State.
Roles and Key Responsibilities
Hygiene Promotion & Community Mobilisationย
Planning and implementing needs assessments and baseline studiesย Conduct hygiene promotion sessions and HH visits.ย Plan all field activities in communities that reduce WASH-related health risks by training and supervising Community Mobilizersย Create, train and organise together with Community Mobilizers, monitoring Latrine Maintenance Teamsย , including Water Management Committee.Mentor LCCs and WMC on the operation and maintenance of sanitation and water infrastructure, ensuring the prudent management of user fees generated with the support of the field engineers. ย Monitor and mentor Latrine Maintenance Teams and Water management committees.ย Lead cleaning campaigns and identify waste collection points for PEPSA to collect and dispose of in landfills.ย Set up monitoring systems for Community Mobilizers for daily inspection of community latrines, drainages, and solid waste collection points.ย ย ย Conduct public Hygiene Promotion sessions a week in each neighbourhood or village.ย Conduct once a week Hygiene Promotion session with children, plan child-to-child hygiene sessions and organise events every two weeks with children to raise hygiene and heath awareness.ย Distribute Aquatabs or local equivalent and train HH and Community Mobilizers in its use, and monitor residual chlorine in HH water storages.ย Train Community Mobilizers on how to use ORS.ย Carry out mobilisation of key community stakeholders, including the protection committee, youths, women, men and host communities to participate in community awareness events/meetings.ย Liaise with community leaders and other sectors and agencies working locally to coordinate within the WASH sector and between sectors such as health, nutrition and shelter.ย Organise data collected from Community Mobilisers and prepare regular activity reports for submission to the Emergency Coordinator.ย Lead/support NFI distributions.Document success stories, best practices and lessons learnt for sharing internally and externally.ยReportingย
Compile and submit timely weekly activity reports and monthly progress reports.ย Advise management about issues affecting project implementation or key local issues affecting future project developments.ยRequired Languages:ย English, Hausa.ย
Travelย - Must be willing and able to travel up to 50 %.

Basic Qualificationsย
Education and Experienceย
A minimum of a first degree in the following or related area : ย public health, health or Hygiene Promotion, community development, education, or community water supply and sanitation.ย At least three years of practical experience in relevant community development, health, WASH, or similar programs with demonstrated experience in a Gender, Protection or Community Mobilizer role, preferably with an international NGO.ย ยAgency Competencies (for all CRS Staff):
