The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center is seeking an innovative & multi skilled candidate to join its office in Battaramulla, Sri Lanka, as a Project Coordinator.

The Project Coordinator will play a key coordinating role for the Al Murunah project. The responsibilities of the incumbent include fostering an enabling environment among project team members, implementation partners, and key stakeholders to ensure the timely delivery of project outputs.

The key objective of the Al Murunah project will be to increase water security in Jordan, Lebanon, the Occupied Palestinian Territories, and Egypt through the integration of nature-based solutions for water (NBSW) and agricultural water management (AWM). Facing similar challenges associated with water security and climate extremes, other countries in the region could also benefit from nature-based solutions.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contribute to preparing accurate and timely reports on the Al Murunah project and selected projects at the discretion of the Al Murunah Project Leader to support informed decision making and ensure consistency across information presented to stakeholders.
  • Liaise with internal and external counterparts to promote effective collaboration, monitor the ongoing progress of the Al Murunah Project, and highlight potential risks to program delivery.
  • Help to identify, develop, and manage potential partnerships that support collaborative working, to enhance the implementation of the Al Murunah project.
  • Facilitate regular virtual and physical meetings with the project team and implementing partners for effective coordination and planning.
  • Responsible for all financial, operational, logistical, procurement, and accounting processes of the project.
  • Track outputs, progress-reporting updates, and overall project progress, including deliverables, and provide administrative support to the Team Leader to ensure that agreed timelines are adhered to.
  • Assist the Al Murunah Project Leader in the different areas of the project management life cycle to be undertaken across multiple geographies.
  • Coordinate stakeholder engagement arrangements for the Al Murunah Project Leader as and when necessary.
  • Contribute to maintaining project databases (detailing contacts, interns, consultants, events and projects).
  • Maintain and monitor project plans, schedules, work hours, budgets and expenditures.
  • Organize, attend, and participate in stakeholder meetings.
  • Document and follow up on necessary actions and decisions from meetings.
  • Help to coordinate presentation materials among the team members.
  • Assess project risks and issues and provide solutions where applicable.
  • Ensure stakeholder views are managed towards the best solution.
  • Create a project-management calendar for fulfilling each goal and objective.
  • Develop and coordinate data-gathering and monitoring systems to maintain rigorous quality standards.
  • Assist in coordinating partnerships with government and international development partner agencies involved with water resource development and climate change adaptation in MENA region.
  • Ensure that enquiries and correspondence to the Project Leader are responded to in an appropriate and timely manner.

    Requirements

    EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

    Essential

  • Postgraduate university degree in the field of environmental science, climate change, policy, or other scientific discipline relevant to water resources for multiple sectors.
Minimum of 8 years of work experience in different geographies, including at least 4 years of demonstrated experience in project coordination and management processes with international organizations or other development partners. Demonstrated familiarity with social media and the ability to use such media for promoting inter-office communications and information sharing. Experience of preparing scientific information and papers. Experience of building and sustaining relationships with diverse stakeholders.

Desirable

Prior experience in water management or climate change with international organizations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Essential

Good organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks in a timely manner. Demonstrated strong communication skills, particularly in preparing correspondence and briefings. The ability to effectively establish priorities and plan, organize, implement and monitor work activities with limited supervision. Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment, with sensitivity and respect for diversity. Demonstrated skills in using project management software. Demonstrated skills in employing facilitation methods for participatory decisions and shared visions with stakeholders. A high level of proficiency in using MS Office and other computer software. Able to deal with sensitive and confidential information in a professional manner. Personal attributes that include high standards of conduct, respect, flexibility, and sound work ethic. Excellent oral and written language skills in English, including effective listening and strong verbal and written communication abilities.

This is a nationally recruited position and only Sri Lankan nationals will be considered. IWMI offers a competitive salary and benefits package, inclusive of health insurance, life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, and long-term disability coverage. The duration of the contract will be for a period of two years.
