DCAF’s Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) Unit strives to strengthen citizen security in the LAC region by promoting the application of good governance principles.
For our Latin America and the Caribbean Unit, we are looking for a motivated and dynamic individual to be our next:
Project Assistant– Policy Advisory Programme Honduras (100 %)
Starting date: 1 of April 2020 or upon mutual agreement
Duration: 1 year contract
Under the supervision of the Head of the LAC Unit and the Head of the Honduras Project Office, the Project Assistant will be responsible of providing management support for the implementation of the Policy Advisory Programme Honduras
Key areas of operation:
Project management support Honduras
Assist the LAC Unit in ensuring that reporting, approval, communication and financial procedures with the Honduras office are functioning well.
Serve as a contact point for the Honduras team with HQ. Respond to requests from the team in Honduras. Redirect questions and requirements as appropriated.
Help the monitoring of the programme by means of weekly meetings with the Honduras’ team and by tracking the planned and deployed activities. Check the activity progress against the defined outputs and outcomes.
Help to ensure that the activities are correctly documented.
Review activity summaries and activity budgets as well as activity reports and expense reports
Assist in reviewing proposals and overseeing the implementation of third-party activities contracted by DCAF in the context of the Honduras project (consultants).
Help with the preparation of terms of reference and concept notes for the activities of the programme.
Support the drafting of internal and external reports for DCAF and the donor while ensuring that deadlines are respected.
Support in monitoring the project budget and support the financial administration of the project in coordination with the Unit’s Finance and Administration Officer (payments, disbursements, etc.).
Follow up the implementation of the decisions made on programme development and implementation in Honduras.
Keep record of the documentation action points from missions and meetings, etc., and provide inputs for improvement of the management and implementation of the programme
Assist the RBM reporting process (gather data on outputs and outcomes, assist Honduras team in drafting RBM report, etc.).
Support in monitoring political and security situation in Honduras through risk assessment/analysis.
Support in the production of relevant project documentation as required.
Manage the Projects SharePoint site and ensure that are relevant documentation is uploaded and up to date.
General tasks (10%)
Undertake background research on SSG/R topics in general and specific country issue and support the drafting of concept notes and draft proposals
Contribute to in-house brainstorming sessions to determine latest trends, challenges and opportunities in the area of SSG/R and its related themes in the LAC region.
Focal Point for Communication (10%)
Under supervision of the Head of Unit and the corresponding Project coordinator, manage the Units external communications channels:
Coordinate the production of communication materials for strategic and fundraising purposes: project publications, factsheets, DCAF Annual report, presentations, flyers, etc. This requires the drafting of content but also coordinating the design, translation, proofreading, printing and digital circulation of the publications
Liaise with the DCAF communications team as the Unit’s focal point for communication.
Manage the Unit’s Twitter account and the Unit’s section on the DCAF webpage
Coordinate the inputs for the DCAF staff bulletin
Requirements and qualifications:
Desirable experience in working with security and/or justice sector institutions and/or on institutional reforms or any relevant experience in the LAC region.
Familiarity with international policy discussions regarding security as well as SSG/R.
Excellent communications skills and a perfect command of written and spoken Spanish and English.
University degree (or equivalent) in international relations, peace and studies security studies, development studies, international law or other relevant fields.
Swiss or EU citizenship or a valid work permit for Switzerland at time of application a pre-requisite.
