For our Sub-Saharan Africa Division, we are seeking a dynamic, organised and creative individual to be our next:

Project Assistant โ€“ 100%

Location: Geneva

Starting date: as soon as possible

Duration: 24 months

The role

The Project Assistant (PA) provides support in the implementation and administration of the divisionโ€™s projects. The PA will be assigned to one of the DCAFโ€™s programmes. The PA may be asked to provide occasional support to other activities of the Division in the region. He/she primarily assists the Team Lead in project management, research, and administration. He/she also provides ad-hoc support in monitoring/evaluation, reporting and coordination of programme activities. This is a role that is expected to progressively take on greater responsibility, including supporting the organization, facilitation and reporting on activities with partners in the field.

Project and program implementation:

  • Support the preparation and organization of project activities such as workshops, expert missions and other events, logistically as well as substantively;
  • Contribute to drafting documents for internal and external audiences such as concept notes, project proposals, terms of reference, budgets, contracts, summaries, reports, planning documents, etc.;
  • Liaise with project-partners and consultants as requested;
  • Actively participate in M&E, including support to data collection, internal or independent evaluations, course correction or iteration, including through updating project-pages on the IATI platform;
  • Contribute to the measurement and articulation of project results through the DCAF Results-Based Management (RBM) system;
  • Monitor the media and provide a synthesis of the most relevant articles for the assigned countries on a weekly basis.
  • Documentation of emerging good practice and lessons learned from programme implementation


ยท Conduct research in support of the divisionโ€™s activities;

ยท Review and edit of a variety of internal and external research products;

ยท Assist in the coordination of external researchers;

ยท Conduct periodic media monitoring and research relevant to SSR in the region or specific country,

ยท Any other assigned research tasks.

Administrative tasks:

ยท Administrate the divisionโ€™s SharePoint site with the support of DCAFโ€™s SharePoint expert;

ยท Ensure documents and resources are stored and organized appropriately in the divisionโ€™s shared drive and SharePoint site;

ยท Liaise with service providers such as translators, graphic designers and printers;

ยท Assist in preparing background information and DCAF documents/publications, including presentations, posters, flyers, other promotional material in English and French;

ยท Update DCAF hard copy and online materials;

ยท Any other assigned administrative tasks,

ยท Support budget expenditure and planning processes


ยท A minimum of two years of professional experience working on governance or peacebuilding projects in the context of states undergoing transition or democratic reform.

ยท Familiarity with project planning and design, budget management, project implementation and monitoring and evaluation.

ยท Excellent communications skills, and a perfect command of written and spoken English or French; knowledge of the second language is desirable.

ยท Excellent organisation skills with strong attention to detail.

ยท Advanced university degree (or equivalent work experience) in international relations, peace, or security studies.

ยท Familiarity with the UN, EU, AU, ECOWAS, and other intergovernmental and/or regional organisations.

ยท Knowledgeable in using Excel

ยท Swiss or EU citizenship or a valid work permit for Switzerland at the time of application is a pre-requisite.
