Work LocationUN-House ESCWA Expected duration2 Months Duties and ResponsibilitiesBackground: This internship is located within the Strategy, Planning, Accountability, Results and Knowledge Section (SPARK) at ESCWA. The Strategy, Planning, Accountability, Results, Knowledge (SPARK) team strives to support ESCWA in its drive to become a place of choice and centre of excellence in knowledge and well informed solutions. The SPARK team provides advice to ESCWA’s Senior Management in developing strategies and plans under which people, process and technologies are well aligned; and strategic, operational and support functions work in a complementary way to attain measurable results. Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for carrying out the following functions: 1 - Assist in substantive research and analysis related to the work of SPARK. 2 - Contribute to the preparation of background notes, analysis, reports and proposals for activities related to SPARK. 3 - Conduct data compilation, analysis, and visualization. 4 - Take notes and draft related summaries or verbatim reports. 5 - Organize and contribute to the preparation and implementation of meetings. 6 – Support other activities of SPARK, both substantively and administratively. 7 - Assist in other ad-hoc activities in the team, when necessary, as instructed by the supervisor. Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: 1. Applicants must: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above); 2. Applicants must: (a) be computer literate in standard software applications. (b) have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter; and (c) have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
