Result of ServiceThe result of services is to support UNEP Cities Unit to implement a programme on Urban Energy Systems in Ukraine, that will provide technical assistance to Ukrainian cities onintegrated and decentralized energy system planning and implementation, with focus on the role of city and regional integrated energy planning. The consultant will provide interpretation services from English to Ukrainian and Ukrainian to English. Work LocationUkraine Expected duration27 days of actual work time over duration of 8 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Individual Contractor will provide organizational, administrative, and coordination support to the Cities Unit of the Mitigation Branch, Climate Change Division, UNEP, with a focus on activities in Kharkiv and Mykolaiv. The role includes liaising with city authorities, local partners, and national ministries such as the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development and the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine. Key tasks include interpretation services during meetings and consultations, translation of project documents, coordination with stakeholders, and preparation of meeting summaries and progress updates. The contractor will support the implementation of UNEP's urban energy and climate work in Ukraine, especially in the areas of sustainable energy planning, district energy, and post-crisis recovery. The role requires fluency in Ukrainian and English, strong organizational skills, and familiarity with Ukraine's institutional landscape. The position is home-based with regular virtual engagement and possible travel. Qualifications/special skillsFirst Level University degree (Bachelors or equivalent) in: energy systems; engineering; urban planning; environmental studies; International Relations or a similar discipline is preferable. A minimum of two years in a relevant field of work, preferably with a focus on supporting project management, and preferably with a focus on public policy in a field like energy, infrastructure, reconstruction or climate mitigation. Excellent written and oral communications skills on energy and environmental related topics and excellent mastery of Microsoft Office. Thorough familiarity with project management best practices. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in written and oral English and Ukrainian is required.
