POSITION DESCRIPTION

Title: Specialist, Resilient Coastal Habitats

Major Function

Under the supervision of the Lead Specialist, Oceans, the Specialist, Resilient Coastal Habitats will support planning, coordination, communication, and implementation of program activities for existing and new partnerships and projects in collaboration with other goal teams, departments and field offices. This position will work on a portfolio of projects for the Resilient Coastal Ecosystems team, with a primary focus on the โ€œMangroves for Communities and Climateโ€ project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supports all aspects of implementation of the โ€œMangroves for Communities, and Climateโ€ grant, including strategy and workplan development, donor reporting, field office coordination, communications, and coordination of project-level monitoring efforts.
  • Supports the development, planning, and implementation of new and ongoing projects and grants. Works with project personnel, grantees, consultants, and others to ensure successful execution and facilitate coordination, communication, and regular reporting for Resilient Coastal Ecosystems team projects.
  • Supports the development of fundraising proposals and reports to private foundations, government aid agencies, and other donors to support related mangrove and coastal ecosystems projects. Prepares scopes of work, budgets, and administrative information for contracts and to ensure compliance with donor requirements. Engages with donors on relevant proposals.
  • Supports ensuring alignment across WWF US Oceans, Climate, Food, and Finance teams to execute projects. Interacts regularly with representatives of WWF International and other offices and associate organizations, grantees, and consultants. Communicates with representatives of conservation organizations, universities, NGOs, corporations, and/or government agencies.
  • Monitors and analyzes new technical information, policy development issues, and trends related to the program and advises others accordingly. Keeps abreast of issues in areas in which WWF has an ongoing interest. Responsible for acquiring and gathering information relevant to specific conservation projects from conservation peers, governmental agencies, and universities. Documents learning from projects to inform future work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Skills and Abilities

    • 4-6 years professional experience or advanced degree in natural resource management, marine conservation, or conservation planning, plus 2-3 years experience.
    • Experience in fields relevant to marine conservation and natural resources management, blue carbon, and coastal-marine systems, and excellent understanding of international conservation, oceans, climate, and sustainable development issues, preferred.
    • Must have strong project management skills, and the ability to work on initiatives with multiple and competing priorities.
    • Experience in cross-sectoral collaboration, facilitation of partnerships or coalitions is a plus.
    • Strong research, analytic, and writing skills are essential.
    • Ability to operate with independence, under pressure, to meet deadlines and commitments.
    • Good interpersonal skills and
    • Additional language skills, such as Spanish or French, are a plus.
