Addressing climate change is increasingly central to achieving universal health coverage and by extension, PSIโs Global Mission to enable people to live healthier lives. The negative impact of climate change events on health are growing more pronounced in LMICs where more frequent and severe climate events disproportionately affect women, children, and marginalized populations. These impacts exacerbate the existing barriers to health services and make disease patterns shift, putting more at risk. In response, PSI is taking a dual approach: supporting health systems and the communities they serve, to be prepared, adaptable, and resilient while at the same time taking steps as an organization to reduce our own climate impact.
To help us shape our approach to reducing our own climate impact, PSI seeks an experienced consultant to help our country offices develop and refine Climate Actions Plans that address climate mitigation and preparedness for continuity of operations in the event of climate-related events. Plans will build on foundational work to assess greenhouse gas emissions and identify potential actions at country level carried out in 2023.
PSI seeks an individual or small business firm with proven experience in the climate sector, some familiarity with international public health a plus.
 
Scope of work
It is anticipated that the Scope of Work will be executed over the period of April โ June 2024.
Work is expected to result in:
An updated climate action plan with a focus on practical actions which can be taken to reduce carbon footprint in one global country office; andโข A harmonized process and tailored supporting tools (e.g. assessment questionnaires, tailored guidance on options for action, climate action plan templates, etc.) to help roll out development of relevant, practical climate action plans in the countries where we operate.
This is a remote consultancy. Consultant will work with PSIโs Climate / Health Lead and Global Program Management Team.
Required skills and experience:
Proven expertise and familiarity with climate action efforts and networks as demonstrated by past (within past 5 years) consultation, employment, or other engagement with climate action planning, climate mitigation approaches and preparedness planning. Proven expertise and familiarity with the geographies (Africa, Asia, and/or Latin America) in which PSI carries out its work.Ability to work independently, excellent written and verbal communications, and with strong outcomes orientation that gets results. Strong English writing skills required; fluency in French a plus.
