Internship Office Background
Established in Seoul in 2022 with support from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family of the Republic of Korea, the UN Women Centre of Excellence for Gender Equality (the Centre) seeks to function as a 'knowledge hub' to facilitate research, education and training, sharing of innovations and lessons learned, networking, and development of multi-stakeholder partnerships for the achievement of gender equality in the Asia-Pacific region. The Centre aims to contribute to operationalizing normative frameworks on gender equality and the empowerment of women, informing innovative approaches to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (\"SDGs\"), transforming harmful social norms in the fast-changing and unique social landscape of Asia and the Pacific, and forging partnerships across sectors. In 2023, the Centre implemented a full-scale programme with various partnership-building activities and research, policy dialogue, and gender training activities.
UN Women Centre of Excellence offers outstanding final-year undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to UN Women's work and gain technical knowledge and experience in international development and multilateral cooperation. The Centre's working language is English, offering an international working environment.ย
This position is based within the Centre of Excellence for Gender Equality. The internship will deepen the intern's knowledge of various gender issues and build professional experience with practical skills in related communications, partnership development, and events organization for UN Women, along with exposure to an international and regional network of UN Women's work. It will also provide exciting collaboration opportunities with government and non-government institutions and with overseas UN Women and their national partners in various countries in the Asia-Pacific Region. The internship will offer opportunities for the candidate to understand UN Women's work in strengthening the capacity of the relevant stakeholders to implement the international commitment to gender equality and women's empowerment.
The internship will strengthen the candidate's core skills for any career in the future.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Gender Training Specialist, and in working closely with the Policy and programme consultant, intern will perform the support the Centreโs activities, including workshops, programme and policy events to advance gender equality:
- Support to the organization of workshops and events on various thematic areas such as gender-based violence, gender and disaster risk reduction, gender and climate change.
- Support the design of the online pre-assessment and post-evaluation workshop.

Required Skills and Experience
Education
The intern must have studies in international development, gender studies, social sciences, or other subject relevant to this position, at the university level. Meet one of the following:ย ย a)ย ย Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a Masterโs programme, or higher);
ย ย b)ย ย Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as Bachelorโs degree or equivalent);
ย ย c)ย ย Be enrolled in a mandatory national service programme of which the internship may form a part;
ย ย d)ย Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within two-years of graduation.
Language
Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required.Fluency in Korean is a strong advantage.Renumeration
Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.
