Description of the Assignment: Duties and Responsibilities

The social worker will support the implementation of the โ€˜TransFormEDโ€™ project in Jamaica. โ€˜

Project beneficiaries will be provided with psychosocial, financial, and other support to facilitate successful completion of the programme. TransFormED will also facilitate access to education programs (to complete schooling or access university), vocational training, language courses, seed capital, business registration and digital literacy courses, among others.

Under the overall supervision of the Programme Analyst, the Consultant will be responsible for:

Assessment and Needs Analysis

- Participate in the development of the requisite screening criteria and subsequent selection of project beneficiaries.

- Collaborate with beneficiaries to develop individualised care plans to improve their wellbeing, employability, and socio-economic status.

Social Services Coordination

- Work closely with beneficiaries to plan and navigate available social services, both within and outside of the project.

- Support the acquisition of referrals to government agencies, civil society organizations, and local & regional initiatives in areas such as health, banking, housing, seed capital access, education, poverty reduction schemes, online courses. The development of a referral system would be required to facilitate efficiency of this process.

Psychosocial Support

- Execute group and/or individual counselling sessions.

- Liaise with project psychologist to assist beneficiaries with accessing broader psychosocial support to address issues related to but not limited to health, neurodiversity, learning/developmental challenges, discrimination, violence, self-acceptance, as necessary.

- Liaise with project psychologist, partner CSO, local formal and informal transgender networks and organisations to host support group sessions and/or other appropriate group activities.

Advocacy and Outreach

- Encourage selected participants to utilize services of โ€˜pre-screenedโ€™ organizations or entities to mitigate the risk of exposure to transphobia by beneficiaries.

- Participate in awareness-raising activities to combat stigma and discrimination against transgender and gender diverse persons.

Documentation and Reporting

- Maintain accurate but case management system

- Prepare regular progress reports for UNDP

- Contribute to the creation of case studies and success stories for knowledge sharing and advocacy purposes.

- Facilitate the recording of data on human rights violations experienced by the beneficiaries (with their informed consent) in the partner CSOโ€™s existing database.

Period of assignment/services: 2 months
