Background:

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

UN Women Jordan Country Office supports the Government of Jordan in implementing global norms and standards on gender equality and womenโ€™s empowerment. Under its Strategic Note for the period 2023-2027, the UN Women Jordan Country office promotes womenโ€™s economic empowerment, gender-responsive governance and womenโ€™s political participation in alignment with the Triple Modernization Agenda; works to advance the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security agenda including through the Jordan National Action Plan for Women, Peace and Security (JONAP); and implements a resilience and empowerment model for Syrian refugee women and vulnerable Jordanian women in camps and host communities in support of the Jordan Response Plan (JRP).ย 

UN Women supports legislative and institutional efforts to strengthen national capacity for gender mainstreaming and advance womenโ€™s political participation in line with international and national commitments. In alignment with the three modernization visions, which emphasize gender responsiveness and womenโ€™s empowerment, UN Women is committed to closing gender gaps in political and governance structures. To this end, UN Women is seeking a national trainer to deliver trainings on the importance of Womenโ€™s Political Participation under the Umbrella of the Political School Initiative. The Political School is an initiative was firstly introduced by the IMC in 2022 with the aim to enhance womenโ€™s civic participation and more particularly increase womenโ€™s representation in Parliament and Political Parties. The consultants will be responsible to deliver a full-fledged capacity building program targeting women Leaders and provide them with the essential knowledge and skills related to political participation, legal frameworks, political parties, leadership, and work-life balance.ย 

The consultants will work under the overall supervision of the Country Representative and the direct supervision of the Assistant Representative for Gender Responsive Governance, the trainer will support the delivery of trainings, coordinate with the targeted women leaders. The trainers will specifically perform the following; Description of Responsibilities/ Scope of Work Scope of Work The Senior Trainers will provide support the implementation of Political School by delivering the training sessions for women leaders in local communities each in their respective fields. Fostering womenโ€™s political participation.

Key Responsibilities:ย 

Task 1: Political School Curriculum Review, as needed

Revise curriculum and training materials (as needed) focusing on key aspects of governance, policy-making, and political advocacy. Ensure the training content is gender-responsive, culturally relevant, and aligns with both national and international gender equality standards.

Task 2: Conduct 8 Training Sessions for Women Leaders

Deliver eight ( one day)high-quality, interactive training sessions to women leaders, focusing on increasing their knowledge of political participation and leadership with potential travel to governorates. Provide practical insights into the legal and political landscape, including an understanding of relevant laws, policies, and frameworks that promote womenโ€™s political engagement. Facilitate discussions, group activities, and case studies to ensure participants can apply the knowledge and skills gained during the training.ย 

Task 3: Monitor and Evaluate Training Effectiveness

In coordination with the Gender Responsive Governance and Political Participation portfolio M&E Analyst assess the effectiveness of the training sessions through feedback, surveys, pre and post and direct participant evaluations. Adjust and tailor training content and delivery (as needed) based on the feedback received to improve future sessions. Provide reports on training progress, participant achievements, and any key recommendations for enhancing the program.ย

Required Qualifications:

Education and Certification:

Masterโ€™s degree in political science, Gender Studies, International Relations, Law, or related fields is required or/A first-level university degree in combination with two additional qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of and advanced degree.

Experience:

At least 7 years of experience in governance, political participation, or gender equality programs is requiredย  Proven expertise in organizing political training programs and forums is required.ย  Experience in working with political parties, civil society organizations, and government entities is required. Strong experience in Political Participation, Advocacy, Legal research and development, gender responsiveness is required Familiarity with the political landscape and electoral processes in Jordan is an asset. Excellent analytical skills with a strong drive for results and capacity to work independently is required. Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web-based management systems is required. Experience working in the UN System is desirable.

Languages:

Fluency in English and Arabic is required.
