Counterpart International is currently seeking a multiple Technical Leads for an anticipated multi-million USAID-Funded civil grant program to counter trafficking of persons, promote human rights, and civic freedoms in closed spaces and conflict zones. The Technical Leads will play a pivotal role working with civil society actors (CSO) in the following technical areas: Gender, Civil Society, or Media.

The candidate should have proven experience and knowledge in the development of approaches to improve civil society actorโ€™s ability to identify and support community needs and advocate for Prevention of trafficking, Protection of victims and survivors, Prosecution of traffickers, and Partnerships for a strengthened response. The Expert will provide technical guidance and support to program staff, regional and local CSO partners, and represent the Program at conferences and workshops. Responsibilities

Counterpart seeks civil society technical leads throughout the world to work on projects and activities in the following areas:

  • Serve as Programโ€™s technical leader in Prevention of trafficking, Protection of victims and survivors, Prosecution of traffickers, and Partnerships for a strengthened response.
  • Lead in civil society engagement, including capacity development or collective action and advocacy for local and regional organizations through the development and implementation of new tools and cutting-edge methodologies.
  • Remain fully apprised of current trends and best practices in the technical area, including the challenges of CSO sustainability, advocacy campaigns and support its integration into program activitiesโ€™ design and implementation.
  • Advise technical design of approaches to ensure civil society safety and effective engagement of partners in meeting program needs.
  • Provide training to partners, civil society stakeholders and others on civil society engagement approaches, methodologies or tools as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with program staff to meet program needs and objectives of activities.
  • Support the development of technical deliverables of the program.
  • Provide technical support, in close collaboration with Home Office and Field Office teams. Design and implement strategies to build the organizational capacity of local partners.
  • Represent Counterpart at client and stakeholder forums, including presentations and public events, ensuring Counterpartโ€™s continued representation as a leader in the civil society development and enhancement sector.
  • Potentially support proposal design efforts as needed and when appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in international development, Social Sciences, Political Science, Human Rights, Governance and Civil Society and/or other related fields. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 8 yearsโ€™ experience working with civil society organizations and / or on good governance issues. Demonstrated familiarity with the concepts, methods, and tools related to work on civil society and governance.
  • Experience working and supporting projects in the Middle East and Central Asia region.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing and hostile environment with experience in incorporating strategic business intelligence within risk management programs operating in fragile states and conflict environments.
  • Ability to work in a cross-cultural context and among different populations including in rural areas.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting civil society organizational assessments, action planning, and subsequent training and technical assistance provision.
  • Strong research capacity including knowledge of research methods, use of statistical software, data gathering and analysis, and report writing.
  • Excellent English language verbal and written communications.
