Summary of Position

The maternity supervisor will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the operations of a maternity unit or department within Makkah Hospital. She will provide leadership, guidance, and support to the maternity staff, ensure quality patient care, and maintain a safe and efficient working environment. The maternity supervisor will collaborate with healthcare professionals, implements policies and procedures, and promotes a positive experience for expectant mothers.

Purpose

The purpose of the maternity supervisor role is to oversee all aspects of the maternity unit or department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to pregnant women and their newborns. The maternity supervisor plays a pivotal role in organizing and managing the unit, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards, and providing leadership to the maternity staff. Her objective is to create a supportive and safe environment for both patients and staff while promoting optimal maternal and neonatal outcomes.

Engagement

Maternity supervisor will engage in various activities to fulfill her role in the maternity unit. She will collaborate with healthcare professionals, including obstetricians, nurses, and support staff, to ensure coordinated and efficient care. The maternity supervisor will also engage with expectant mothers and their families, providing education, emotional support, and addressing any concerns. She will actively participate in quality improvement initiatives, maintain regulatory compliance, and promote a positive work culture within the maternity unit.

Essential Job Functions

Leadership and Supervision: Provide leadership and supervision to the maternity staff, including midwives, auxiliary midwives, and support personnel. Assign duties, monitor performance, provide feedback, and promote professional growth and development. Patient Care Coordination: Coordinate the delivery of patient care within the maternity unit, ensuring adherence to best practices, quality standards, and patient safety protocols. Collaborate with healthcare teams to optimize patient outcomes. Policy and Procedure Implementation: Develop, implement, and update policies, procedures, and protocols for the maternity unit, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and evidence-based practices. Staffing and Scheduling: Coordinate staffing and scheduling of maternity unit personnel to ensure adequate coverage and efficient use of resources. Manage staffing levels based on patient acuity and unit needs. Education and Training: Provide education and training to maternity staff on topics such as new protocols, procedures, and professional development. Facilitate ongoing education to maintain staff competence and enhance patient care. Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety, patient satisfaction, and clinical outcomes. Collect and analyze data, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to enhance care processes. Patient and Family Engagement: Foster a positive experience for expectant mothers and their families. Provide emotional support, educational resources, and facilitate communication between patients, families, and healthcare providers. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, standards, and guidelines governing maternity care. Maintain accurate documentation and records in accordance with organizational and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

Required Qualifications and Professional Experience:

Bachelor's degree in nursing or a related field. Master's degree in nursing or healthcare administration is preferred but not always required. Minimum of 5 years of experience in maternity nursing or a related field, including demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.

Required Skills, Competencies & Attributes:

In-depth knowledge of maternity care practices, including antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care. Strong leadership and managerial skills, including the ability to effectively supervise and motivate a diverse team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with healthcare professionals, patients, and families. Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards governing maternity care. Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and implement quality improvement initiatives. Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks, manage resources, and meet deadlines. Ability to handle stressful situations and make critical decisions in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in electronic medical record systems and other relevant healthcare technologies. Commitment to patient-centered care, safety, and ethical conduct. Empathy, compassion, and a patient-focused approach to provide support and care to expectant mothers and their families.
