Overview: As a Maternal and Newborn Health Expert at Connecting Research to Development (CRD), you will play a pivotal role in advancing evidence-based interventions to improve maternal and newborn health outcomes in the MENA and Central Asia regions. Your expertise will be instrumental in guiding regional assessments, shaping policy frameworks, and implementing impactful programs aimed at addressing key challenges in maternal and newborn health.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Technical Leadership:
    • Provide expert guidance and technical leadership in the field of maternal and newborn health, drawing on your in-depth understanding of the MENA region context.
    • Lead regional assessments to identify key challenges, gaps, and opportunities for improving maternal and newborn health outcomes.
    • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to develop evidence-based strategies and interventions.
  2. Policy Development and Monitoring:
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies, guidelines, and protocols related to maternal and newborn health.
    • Assist in monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of existing policies and programs, recommending adjustments as needed to enhance impact and sustainability.
  3. Public Systems Strengthening:
    • Work closely with government ministries, NGOs, and other partners to strengthen public health systems and infrastructure related to maternal and newborn care.
    • Provide technical support and capacity building initiatives to enhance the skills and knowledge of healthcare professionals and policymakers.
  4. Research and Data Analysis:
    • Design and conduct research studies, including qualitative and quantitative assessments, to generate evidence on maternal and newborn health issues.
    • Utilize advanced data analysis techniques to interpret findings and inform programmatic decisions and policy advocacy efforts.
  5. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Foster effective collaboration and communication with a diverse range of stakeholders, including universities, international institutions, and local organizations.
    • Represent CRD in relevant forums, conferences, and working groups to share insights, best practices, and lessons learned in maternal and newborn health.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in public health, epidemiology, or a related field.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in maternal and newborn health, with a focus on the MENA region.
  • Strong understanding of policy development, monitoring and evaluation methodologies, and public health systems strengthening.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software and statistical techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Prior experience in conducting research, leading assessments, and implementing health programs preferred.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of additional languages spoken in the region is an asset.
