Your responsibilities

Are you a passionate and innovative engineer looking to make a mark in the world of additive manufacturing and laser welding? Join our dynamic team of highly skilled engineers and technicians within the Mechanical and Materials Engineering (MME) Group and help us shape the future of advanced materials and cutting-edge technology. We are seeking a highly motivated young engineer who will play a crucial role in our additive manufacturing and laser welding projects. You will produce and assemble components for various demanding applications such as Ultra High Vacuum, Radiofrequency and Cryogenic.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Laser Welding and Cutting:

Tooling Design: Design and/or procurement of dedicated tooling for laser welding and cutting operations.Parameter Development: Develop and optimize welding parameters to ensure precise and efficient operations.Machine Operation: Operate state-of-the-art laser welding machines, ensuring accuracy and reliability.Quality and Traceability: Maintain a high level of quality control and traceability.Contribute to Research and Development efforts, leveraging new laser sources for welding challenging materials such as copper.Documentation: Document all laser welding and cutting activities, including results and observations, and share insights through reports and technical presentations.

2. Additive Manufacturing (AM):

Process and Data Management: Handle data processing and job preparation for additive manufacturing projects.Machine Operation and Maintenance: Operate and maintain additive manufacturing machines, ensuring optimal performance.Collaboration: Work closely with the beam welding team to support and enhance AM processes.Material Development: Contribute to the development of exotic materials, including Tantalum and Niobium, for Superconducting RF and ion sources applications.Quality Assurance: Maintain a strong focus on quality control and traceability.Documentation: Thoroughly document work processes and outcomes, and share findings through reports and technical presentations.

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

Strong understanding of additive manufacturing processes and laser welding techniques.Hands-on experience with additive manufacturing equipment and laser welding machines.In depth knowledge of material science applied to welding and additive manufacturing.Proficiency in data analysis and process optimization.Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.Dedication to maintaining high-quality standards and traceability.Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Eligibility criteria:

You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.You have a professional background in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) and have either: a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

A monthly stipend ranging between 6194 and 6808 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).Coverage by CERN's comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.Depending on your individual circumstances: installation grant; family, child and infant allowances; payment of travel expenses at the beginning and end of contract.30 days of paid leave per year.On-the-job and formal training at CERN as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French.
