Org. Setting and ReportingThe positions are located in the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT), Kigali Field Office. The incumbents will work under the general supervision of Investigators and/or Analysts. Responsibilitiesโข Provides uncertified but accurate and reliable translations from Kinyarwanda to English and/or French and from English and/or French to Kinyarwanda of documents used in OTP cases or in relation to such cases. โข Quickly peruses documents in Kinyarwanda and assists OTP Lawyers and Investigators and/or Analysts to determine whether such documents would be useful in any of the OTP on-going cases or investigations. โข Performs any other translation or interpretation duties as directed either by OTP Lawyers or by Investigators and/or Analysts. These duties include, but are not limited to, acting as interpreter at meetings of the OTP, assisting Investigators in their contacts with local authorities, interpreting informal but official conversations, providing confirmation or reconfirmation of witnessesโ statements, and assistance conducting searches of documentary records. โข Performs any other linguistic duties as directed by OTP Lawyers or by Investigators and/or Analysts. Job - Specific QualificationA university degree or additional training in translation/interpretation, literature, law, history, political science or related field is desirable. Work ExperienceMinimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in interpretation, translation, administrative support or related field is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Working experience in UN International Criminal Tribunals is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English and French are required. Kinyarwanda is required.
