Purpose of Activity/Assignment:

UNICEF is committed to promoting gender equality โ€“ across all sectors. By adopting its most progressive and forward-looking strategic plan, Gender Policy and Gender Action Plan (GAP) 2022-2025, UNICEF demonstrates the organizationโ€™s strengthened commitment to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls as its core mandate. The GAP III identifies four key areas to enhance adolescent girlsโ€™ leadership and: promoting adolescent girlโ€™s nutrition, pregnancy care and prevention of HIV/AIDS and Human Papillomavirus; advancing girlsโ€™ education, learning and skills including science, technology, engineering mathematics and digital skills; eliminating child marriage and early unions; and promoting accessible and dignified menstrual health and hygiene services, including tacking taboos about menstruation.

At the regional level, the South Asia Regional Adolescent Girls Strategy is accelerating progress in 3 priority areas: Health, nutrition and MHM; quality education and skills for girls; and protection from violence and harmful practices, including child marriage. These plans recognize that to achieve success, gender equality must be integral to all UNICEFโ€™s programmatic work, as the agency undertakes new, targeted, and transformative actions for adolescent girls and women in the region.

How can you make a difference?ย 

Scope of Work:

UNICEF Regional Office for South Asia (ROSA) requires an individual information and knowledge management consultant to provide technical assistance to the Gender section with gender-related information and knowledge management, including data analytics and visualization, infographics, PPT development, drafting of strategies, annual reports, concept notes, ToRs and other background documents among other supportive tasks. UNICEF aspires to base gender programming on the latest, most up-to-date data to inform strategy and deliver for adolescent girls and enhance its programmes by creating and learning from sector and programme-specific evidence.

To fine-tune gender interventions in the region, the information and knowledge management consultant will collect, aggregate, analyze and visualize gender thematic data and lead the section on evidence, learning and knowledge management activities, including the running of adolescent girls Community of Practice webinar series, and maintaining the internal Communications and Collaboration SharePoint sites with the lates developments and news. S/he will involve internal and external stakeholder where necessary while collaborating on reporting and documentation of gender results across multiple thematic areas and integrating sound data in strategies, concept notes, programme documents (internal and external facing).

Key tasks will include:

General knowledge and information management support:

Providing technical assistance to the regional office and country offices in furnishing up-to-date, relevant data and evidence, and presenting and packaging it in a contextually appropriate way. Provide ongoing support with data analytics, visualization, infographics, simple designing of reports, concept notes, PPTs, strategies and frameworks produced by the gender section (both internal and external). Keeping an efficient filing system and organizing and maintaining the sectionโ€™s knowledge repository, including SharePoint sites to ensure effective knowledge management.ย  Assist gender section colleagues, including gender focal points in-country offices with documentation of best practices, case studies, human interest stories etc.

Organizing/supporting webinars and learning platforms:

Continue running the quarterly community of practice knowledge-sharing sessions on adolescent girls programming and assist in organising various webinars and learning platforms (Gender and Health, HPV, harmful practices, care and support, gender in emergencies, etc.) throughout the consultancy period.

Reporting and Documentation support:

Provide support for various gender portfolios (health and nutrition, immunization, including polio and HPV, Child marriage, gender in emergencies, GBV and digital programming) by developing and inputting in or taking the lead to develop result frameworks, strategies, background documents, PPTs, 2 pagers, monitoring tools, and reports.

Support capacity building and training activities:

Assist colleagues from the sector to prepare for and participate in capacity building and training activities (online and offline) throughout the consultancy period. Ad-Hoc requests: The consultant could be requested to perform other tasks as his/her line Manager may judge necessary within the scope of the consultancy objectives.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will haveโ€ฆย 

Education:

Masterโ€™s degree in knowledge management, Gender studies, international development, international affairs, or another relevant discipline.

Work Experience:

3 to 5 years of progressively responsible and relevant work experience and demonstrated understanding of knowledge management principles and a good understanding of gender issues in the region.

Experience:

Demonstrated understanding of knowledge management principles and a good understanding of gender issues in the region. Demonstrated experience in designing and editing SharePoint sites, andย PPTs, and presenting data in a clear, easily understandable way using either Excel, PowerBI, Tableau or other software. Demonstrated experience in documenting cases/experiences/lessons learned is required. Ability to link content development and engagement strategies that facilitate timely, useful delivery of information through knowledge platforms and activities. Experience working in South Asian contexts is desirable. Experience in developing and organizing online webinars/workshops would be an asset. Excellent facilitation, program/activity management, written and oral communication skills. Working experience within UNICEF or other UN entities would be an asset.
