Organizational Setting
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) supports the 2030 Agenda through its Strategic Framework, promoting efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems for better production, nutrition, environment, and life, leaving no one behind.
FAO Country Offices, guided by the Strategic Framework, provide policy advice, technical assistance, and core services to countries in FAOโs mandated areas. These offices implement country-specific priorities outlined in their Country Programming Frameworks (CPFs) and aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), ensuring efficient operations with adequate human and financial resources.
FAO Ethiopia country office in close collaboration with Ministries of Agriculture (MoA) and other relevant government institutions implement various interventions aimed at promoting sustainable food systems, providing related technical assistance and policy advice, enhancing access to knowledge and technology, promoting seed systems and genetic resources and supporting appropriate and timely response to food security challenges and emergencies.
Reporting Lines
Under the overall supervision and guidance of the FAO Representative in Ethiopia (FAOR), the direct supervision of the Head of Programme and working closely with the Emergency and Resilience Specialist and in close collaboration with technical and field teams, the Junior Emergency Livelihoods Specialist will support the Emergency Unit in implementing emergency agricultural and livelihoods interventions, including needs assessments, beneficiary targeting, activity planning, monitoring, and reporting. ย
Tasks and responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for fulfilling the following specific tasks:
โข ย ย Support the design and implementation of emergency livelihoods interventions (e.g., crop production assistance, livestock support, cash programs, etc).
โข ย ย Assist in conducting needs assessments and beneficiary targeting in coordination with local authorities and partners.
โข ย ย Contribute to the preparation of project documents, work plans, procurement requests and track the delivery status, including LoAs, operational plans, and procurement pipelines.
โข ย ย Assist to monitor field activities and collect data on implementation progress, challenges, and results.
โข ย ย Support the preparation of project briefs, progress reports, situation updates, and donor reports.
โข ย ย Assist in organizing training sessions, workshops, and field missions.
โข ย ย In collaboration with the Social Protection Unit, maintain and update the beneficiary database, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency across all project sites.
โข ย ย Develop and maintain project tracking tools to monitor the implementation status of Letters of Agreement (LoAs), budget utilization, and timelines.
โข ย ย Assist with the preparation of data-driven presentations and insights for internal and external stakeholders
โข ย ย Contribute to the documentation of best practices and lessons learned from emergency responses and resilience building efforts
โข ย ย Contribute to the production of periodic emergency programme briefs
โข ย ย Support the tracking and monitoring of Letters of Agreement (LoAs), including deliverables, timelines, and reporting requirements.
โข ย ย Assist with the preparation of monthly 5Ws and submission to the DRM-ATF Cluster
โข ย ย Perform other related duties as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements ย ย
โข ย ย University degree in agricultural sciences, rural development, economics, humanitarian affairs, or a related field.ย
โข ย ย A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in emergency or development programming, preferably in the agriculture or livelihoods sector.
โข ย ย Working knowledge (level C) of English and working knowledge of the local language used at the duty station (Amharic).ย
โข ย ย National of Ethiopia or resident of the country with valid work permit.ย

โข ย ย Extent of experience in preparing visualizations, dashboards, and reports to support programmatic decision-making.
โข ย ย Extent of knowledge and experience in working with various stakeholders, including UN agencies, government counterparts, NGOs, private sector, and academic institutions, particularly in relation to monitoring and evaluation.
โข ย ย Extent of experience in managing and maintaining data tracking systems, categorizing qualitative data, and ensuring data quality and consistency.
โข ย ย Experience in using digital tools and software for data management and analysis (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Tableau) will be considered an asset.
โข ย ย Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and contribute effectively to meetings and discussions.
โข ย ย An Advanced university degree (masterโs degree) will be an added advantage.
