Work LocationAddis Ababa Expected duration3 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Macroeconomics, Finance and Governance Division (MFGD) operates under the overall guidance of the Deputy Executive Secretary for Programmes and is led at the divisional level by a Director. The Division plays a key role in supporting member States in advancing economic transformation and inclusive growth through evidence-based development planning, sound macroeconomic management, strengthened economic governance, and the effective mobilization and allocation of domestic and international public finance. It is organized into four specialized sections: Macroeconomic Analysis; Development Planning; Finance and Domestic Resource Mobilization; and Economic Governance and Public Finance. Duties and Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Economic Governance and Public Finance Section (EGPFS), the consultant will support the Divisionโ€™s work on G20-related streams by carrying out the following tasks: Economic or sector analysis: โ€ข Monitors global and regional economic developments and identifies recurrent and emerging issues. โ€ข Designs and conducts studies of selected issues in economic development and draft resulting reports, โ€ข Reviews documents and reports submitted to the office of the Deputy Executive Secretary-Programmes (DES-P) related to the G20 from other Divisions and SROs โ€ข Develops draft policy recommendations pertaining to area of work, as well as background documents, technical and position papers and other knowledge products in the priority areas and high-level deliverables of the South African G20 Presidency, including position papers for African Union as a member of the G20. โ€ข Formulates proposals for development strategies, policies and measures for presentation to intergovernmental bodies and others. โ€ข Organizes technical and consultative meetings for advocacy and engagement. โ€ข Prepares speeches and other inputs for presentations by the DES-P and the Director related to the G-20. Qualifications/special skillsAdvanced university degree (masterโ€™s degree or equivalent) in economics, finance, econometrics or related area is required. A first level university degree in a combination of additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the master's degree. โ€ข Additional training or certifications in data analytics, financial modeling, or development finance is desirable. โ€ข โ€ข A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, application of economic principles in development programmes or related area is required โ€ข โ€ข 2 years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable. โ€ข Experience in Africa or on African-related issues is desirable โ€ข โ€ข Experience in multi-lateral / intergovernmental processes is desirable. โ€ข Experience in financing for sustainable development in the regional and or global level is desirable โ€ข โ€ข Experience in Global Financial Architecture and G20 issues is highly desirable Languagesโ€ข English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
