Work LocationParis Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP Climate Change Division provides capacity building and technical support to governments to enhance their policy and implementation capacity and helps them access finance to align to the Paris Agreement, decarbonize, anticipate and adapt to climate impacts. Its work is guided by ambition, innovation, credible science, alignment to global climate goals and needs of individual countries . The Cities Unit is located in the Climate Change Division. UNEP Cities Unit has developed a new program on โLocal Energy System Integration for an Affordable & Resilient Energy Transitionโ. This programme draws on the Cities Unitโs existing activities on district energy, cooling, integrated urban energy systems and smart buildings. The program is establishing global thought leadership, knowledge and tools and directly supporting developing countries on implementation of this integrated, local approach to the energy system. The intern is needed to support the Urban Energy work-stream through support research, technical resources and case studies, country activities and preparation of webinars and events.Under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer, the intern will be responsible for the following tasks: 1. Development of research, technical resources and case studies for urban energy projects. o Work with Urban energy team to prepare primary and secondary research in areas such as district energy systems, integrated urban energy, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and measures against extreme heat, etc. especially their application in developing countries. o Prepare technical case studies and project summaries of projects, including in Brazil, Chile, India, Tunisia, Ukraine etc. o Assist in the development of communication materials for country projects. o Support research for funding proposals. 2. Assist Urban Energy team in implementation project activities. o Support project manager in day-to-day organisational activities for country projects including in India, Viet Nam, Chile, Ukraine etc. o Support partner engagement and tracking, file organisation, minutes, report writing etc. 3. Support with the logistical preparation of webinars and events o Research and reach out to potential speakers and trainers o Support in the activities of the partnership for in-person and virtual international conferences including preparing PowerPoint slides and speaking points for webinars and conferences. o Support in drafting concept and briefing notes, etc. o Supporting website o Regularly updating the visual tools, infographics and reference materials. o Attending and summarizing conferences and meetings, including providing technical assistance during virtual meetings. o Assist in other tasks associated with the implementation of the Cities Unit team's projects, as needed and directed by supervising staff member. Qualifications/special skillsApplicant must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above). โข International Relations/ Energy Policy/ Climate Policy/Environmental Science/ Environmental Technology โข Fully proficient computer skills and use of web-based platforms and relevant software e.g. word processing, PowerPoint, excel, internal databases, Internet etc. Preference may be given to Masters candidates. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Masterโs or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelorโs, Masterโs or PH.D.
