Work LocationUNEP New York Office Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environment sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP is the United Nations system's designated entity for addressing issues at the global and regional level. The internship position is located in the UNEP/New York Office. Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Head of Communications, New York Office, the intern will: โ€ข Curate and produce digital content, including articles and multimedia products, to boost the visibility and reach of UNEPโ€™s work. โ€ข Assist in producing communication products for events organized by UNEP in New York including and not limited to infographics, flyers, posters, banners and videos. โ€ข Assist in planning and organization of key UNEP events and activities at UN Headquarters in New York, including observances of International Days, briefings on UNEP reports, and events taking place on the sidelines of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) and the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). โ€ข Assist with outreach and media for events organized by UNEP in New York, including press briefings and conferences. โ€ข When required, attend and summarize key discussions of meetings held at UN Headquarters, including those under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and UN General Assembly. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); preferably enrolled in an advanced university degree (Masterโ€™s degree or equivalent) with a focus on environmental sciences, natural resource management, communication or international relations c. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation. Indicate any IT skills and applications that you are proficient in, e.g. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva etc. In cover letter, please explain why you are the best candidate for the internship, what you hope to gain from the internship. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Masterโ€™s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelorโ€™s, Masterโ€™s or PH.D. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
